Having trouble with a network.

Trying to help a mate set a new computer up, and having major problems. First NTL screwed up, but got that sorted. Now I've got a 3COM router 3CRWER200 is the model number. I can get on the net with a direct connection to the PC, but when connected to the router nothing happens at all. I can access the router, but cannot use any sort of internet services.

Any ideas? Tried the usual set up wizard and stuff to no avail.

Thanks people.

Re: Having trouble with a network.

Yeah, done that. Turn the lot off, connect and do a sequential reboot as I go along.

It's weird, I can connect via a direct connection, and can access the router. But not the net while in the router. I've tried all manner of settings, still to no avail. I am correct with these settings for an NTL account corrrect?

Dynamic IP
Auto settings (Not manually entering IP and Subnet and stuff)
No need for MAC address
No Hostname needed

Anything else I need to tell ou, just let me know.

Is your firewall blocking access to the internet?

Re: Having trouble with a network.

Nah, it wasn't, but thanks for trying to help, I didn't need it in the end. Haven't got a bloody clue how, it literally just started working.

I connected the desktop PC to thr router, Modem to router and all that, still no net access. Turned the laptop on, connected to the network, and that could get on the net. Then, the desktop could as well and it all works fine. God knows how, I didn't even need to restart the PC :/
