Re: New ISP Needed

If you can get VM (cable), then why not choose that? ADSL doesn't really compare IMO

Re: New ISP Needed

Until it is installed no-one can really say what you line will support, too many things can impact speed (even the equipment plugged into the line in your house) to allow anything other than best guess.

Re: New ISP Needed

You would need someone local to you to run the traceroute for it to actually be anything other than an example of possible ping times. Do you know anyone near you (same exchange) that can run a few routes for you?

Re: New ISP Needed

For low pings I'd recommend Be. They are the best option available to you in my opinion.

When you are connected recommend you ask them to change you to fast path. This may lower your download speed slightly but will give you the best pings.

With fast path LLU DSL I see pings of 5ms to the BBC.

Thanks.

The information supplied by BT based on telephone number search is fairly conservative usually which is why it gives details of speed that a line 'should' achieve as an 'at least' value.

In my line's case very conservative. 5.5Mbit at 1.4km of real line length. Despite being somewhat noisy my line achieves 8 on ADSL 1 easily and nearly 20 on ADSL2+.

Be is LLU. U can get anything up to 24mb, but since sam knows suggests 4mb+, I think U should get 8-10mb atleast on Be.

Samknows says I should get greater than 6.5 mb if i remember correctly... When I had ADSL, I got the THEORETICAL MAXIMUM on an 8mb line. So I should get around 16mb atleast, if I was to get Be!

Re: New ISP Needed

'ADSL' = ADSL using BT's equipment. Up to 2Mbit.

ADSLMax = Up to 8Mbit service through BT.

LLU - Any service that doesn't use BT's exchange equipment. Can be any speed right up to 24Mbit.

Re: New ISP Needed

Sam Knows Says

You are approximately 2.61km from the exchange (straight line distance).

So What Speed would i get From be There (Approx) Mate at College Say between 8MB - 10MB ...

---------- Post added at 18:49 ---------- Previous post was at 17:06 ----------

Re: New ISP Needed

That might be pushing it. 2.61km straight line = 3.65km cable length.

8-10Mbit is unlikely. I would say on ADSL2+ you'd perhaps be looking at 4-8Mbit.
