Hi,
I don't know if this is the right place to put this post, or even if this site is for what I want..but here goes...if anyone can help me I'd be so grateful as at the moment I'm ready to throw my wireless router, my modem and my new laptop out of the window!
I bought a laptop 2 weeks ago (Windows Vista installed and wireless enabled) and wanted to use it in the garden so had to have Broadband put in. I chose Virgin Media as I had TV/Phone with them. I asked VM about going wireless but they didn't seem to want to offer me any help at all and the lady I spoke to was rather rude so a friend gave me a bit of help in telling me that the router I needed had to be for Virgin Media and so I got one and was assured by the seller it was for VM. But I can't see how to set it up. My friend couldn't help any more as he doesn't have cable wireless B/B.
I've gone through the manual on the disc. I've plugged the ethernet cables in and got on the net with it with my laptop and typed the IP address in I.E. to set things up...but first of all I didn't know how to set up the security password and then, even though it said 'Quick Setup' and some people sold me that I didn't need to type anything in, boxes appeared asking for 'Host Name' and all sorts of things...so I left them as they were... I thought I'd set it up, even though I'd not set up the security password, but when I unplugged the ethernet cable from the laptop I lost my connection.
The router does not have a name..it just says 802.11b and has two little aerial type things which you can move around connected to the back of it.
My connection to the modem is Ethernet. The cables are set up correctly..it's just the actual set up when I'm online that I can't do..and set up the security password.
I feel so dumb...everyone seems to think it's so easy to set up..so why can't I? I've built two websites so I'm not that stupid...hmmmmm!!!
Please..can anyone help me? I can send the manual to anyone by email if it's easier to look through to tell me what I have to do.
I'd be so grateful if anyone could help. I can't go out much as I have panic attacks so my garden gives me freedom. I do voluntary work online through my Helpline I run and for the last two summers I've missed them as I've been stuck inside...I need to be able to work online in my garden.
I've just seen the attachment icon and hopefully the pdf file with the router info is attached to this message.
Please help.
Thank you.
