Question Intermittent problem with Safecom Router

Having recently bought a wireless laptop, I changed my cheapo Safecom wired router (which has worked perfectly forthe past year) for a cheapo Safecom wired/wireless router, model SWBARR-5400. This works a treat on both the wired and wireless connections except that, infrequently (the last time was a week) I appear to lose the internet connection; I can still look at shared folders on my different PCs, use the shared printer etc but no internet. A simple power cycle of the router sorts the problem.

I THINK this may be related to ntl changing the ip address as when it happened yesterday, I noticed that the ip address had changed after I turned the router off then on.

I wonder if anyone else has this router and has noticed a similar problem?

Re: Intermittent problem with Safecom Router

I have the same one, it can go days without a problem then suddenly block certain sites or indeed the whole internet.
A quick reboot and i'm in business again.

One more thing, when it blocks a site for example CF it unblocks itself after about 20 mins or so
I'm thinking of upating the firmware, just incase theres a glitch

Which IP address changed: your WAN address or machine address?

I'd have a looky see on the service status pages whether there's any network maintenance going on in your area. Might also be worth checking your modem logs, power and SnR levels at 192.168.100.1

Downstream Receive Power Level : 5.6 dBmV

No apparent issues with those figures. There must however be some level of connection reset going on if your modem is picking up a new lease.

Re: Intermittent problem with Safecom Router

I had the same router with the same problem. I replaced it in the end but, if I remember correctly, I was always on the phone to, back then, Telewest complaining because the logs indicated a connection reset. After replacing it with a linksys I've had no further issues.

Re: Intermittent problem with Safecom Router

I have the same problem, as far as I can tell the problem is unique to the SWBARR-5400 when connected to Virgin media broadband.

What's actually happening is that when the IP lease runs out the ISP provides a new IP and the router isn't acknowledging the change. Resetting the router solves this, but next time your due for a new IP you're going to have to reset again, which is incedibly annoying.

I am certain that there is a solution to this somewhere and I am determined to find it, I will keep you informed as to my findings.

Re: Intermittent problem with Safecom Router

I have been trying to fix this problem for a year now, the guys at adsltech forums refuse to accept its a firmware issue with the swbarr-5400, really really annoying!

Re: Intermittent problem with Safecom Router

Latest is that the safecom tecchies have passed my comments to the R&D Dept - I did refer them to this forum so they know it's not just me with the problem.

HOWEVER

I won't be holding my breath!!!
