Are My Levels Okay?

Hi All,

As of late i have been getting quite a slow connection, i know this is due to traffic shaping. For the last few days my download speeds have been slow. I Also have a 10db attenuator connected onto my line. I am just wondering if my power levels on my cable modem are okay i also run through a WRT54GS Router. My levels are as Follow:

Downstream Status

Operational
Channel ID

3
Downstream Frequency

339000000 Hz
Modulation

QAM256
Bit Rate

10240000 bps
Power Level

-0.57 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio

34 dB

Upstream Status

Operational
Channel ID

4
Upstream Frequency

37500000 Hz
Bit Rate

384000 bps
Power Level

51.00 dBmV

Thanks
Kenny

Re: Are My Levels Okay?

Everything seems fine, apart from the upstream power level, seems a tad high to me. BUT, the most important thing, is your connection working fine? If it is then there is absolutely nothing to worry about at all

Re: Are My Levels Okay?

take that attenuater off 51 db is abit high and it will drop to 41 and your signal will go up to +9.

On the other hand leave it on as all your doing is shifting your downstream to border line levels and although the ideal upstream is 48dBmv, 51dBmv is acceptable, especially when you've already mentioned that your slower speeds are due to traffic shaping

According to the sticky thread at the top of this forum, the DS levels should be between -6 to +15dBmV. Removing the attenuator will put his power level around 5dBmV above the ideal (+4.5dBmV), which shouldn't affect anything as it is currently about 5dBmV below the ideal.

Again, according to the sticky, the US should be between 28 and 53dBmV, so removing the attenuator should shift it away from the upper limit.

The attenuator was probably fitted while the modulation was still 64QAM. The ideal levels for 256QAM are different.
