Unhappy Any help would do.

Hi all, yet another new person, with very little knowledge.
My problem is that I have a VirginMedia ISP on wired modem using BT landline all working very well. I also have an Edimax AR-7064G+ wireless router, using a Netgear card in my laptop. They talk to each other happily, giving maximum strength, however I can not seem to get them to play when trying to connect to the net.
Anyone have an idea of what I need to do.

Are you saying you have two broadband connections into your house, one on Virgin Media via cable, the other from BT via ADSL?

As far as I can tell your Edimax router is ADSL based and includes the ADSL modem for direct connection to the BT type phone line filter. ADSL modems will not work with cable as that is a different technology.

You need a DSL/Cable Router (doesn't have an inbuilt modem) and has an ethernet port fort the WAN (internet) connection to the separate standalone cable (or perhaps standalone ADSL) modem.

Many on this forum like the Linksys WRT54G series routers for use with Virgin Media Cable.

Taking a closer look at your IP I suspect you are using Virgin.net which is ADSL based. In which case your router may be OK if you can find the correct settings for it's modem configuration.

Re: Any help would do.

Hi Rob, thanks for the swift response. Sorry I was initially vague. I’m using virgin.net as you said (BT line only no cable in the area). I have looked at Virgin.net web site and can’t find the setting for connection, as I am completely new to networking I don’t know were else to look, as I said Any help would do. I have looked at the manual for the router and got v scared.
