SACM : Won;t work when going through router
ok ive just moved over from a STB to a stand along cable modem.
If i plug my ethernet direct to the SACM I can get online and onto the forum but if I go via my router I can't get onto the net
Strange thing is I used that Broadband CD with the router connected and that was able to setup my account ok and verify me so there must be some connectivity
When i had the STB I used a x-over ethernet cable but i've tried a normal ethernet and a x cable via the router and no luck.. Works fine if i go straight from SACM to PC though but I have a few computers so need the router.
Any ideas i'd love some advice

so you get a different IP when hooked up directly than when using the router?

That's correct, IP addresses are handed out based on the MAC Address of the device connected, if you want your old IP back and your router supports it you could Clone your PC's MAC Address

Re: SACM : Won;t work when going through router
thanks for the info.. well i don't really need the old IP just noticed it as something a bit strange
need to do a search through the forums but am having a bit of trouble with bittorrent
I can download ok and I have my upload set to 20k just like on my STB and that works fine, but when I close the bittorrent client i find the SACM doesn't release the connections and i can't surf the net, I have to do a reboot on the SACM before I can use the net again afterwards
i would have thought I could get more bandwidth through a SACM than a STB

What router do you have, it may well be that which is causing the problems?

i've got a Netgear RP114 router wired.. that is the same one I used before so the thing that has changed is the STB to SACM
will see if I can amend some of the bittorrent settings. go down from 20k upload to 15k
although i'm open to ideas.. first time with a SACM so i'm sure others know more than i do ;-)
will do a search through the forums and see if anything comes up
i use Azerueus for bittorrent
my SACM is in another room so it's annoying to go downstairs to reboot

Re: SACM : Won;t work when going through router
I doubt it's the torrent speed that is the issue, more the number of connections being made, and these may not be getting released in a timely manner.
Torrents work by throwing out a mass of connections to find who is sharing both up and down. These connections are continuously being updated. I've seen problems on the standard Linksys firmware where these connections data was held open too long, and gradually overwhelmed the memory in the router. In turn that overloaded everything else. Third party firmware and then adjustments to the connection timings on the router's setting fixed that. Even so with torrents, I rarely let it have more than 80 connection open for a maximum of 4 active torrents.

Re: SACM : Won;t work when going through router
thanks for that.. well i've made few changes to reduce the number of connections in bittorent and will see how that goes
is there anyway to connect to the SACM and reboot via a browser ?

Re: SACM : Won;t work when going through router
seem to have fixed it.. the max connections per torrent and max global connections were 250 so dropped to 80 global and 25 per torrent and now have working e-mail and web while downloading.. some of my torrents are a bit slower but i thikn that is more to do with the individual torrent.
thank you again for the help
