Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season
I thought the scenes in Italy were disgraceful, in my opinion it's getting to the point where English teams should start to refuse to play against Italian teams in European football. This should eventually get Fifa to do something about the state of Italian football. Things like this never happen in England anymore so there's no excuse for why it should happen in Italy, Fifa need to do something otherwise it will continue and more fans will suffer. Fans shouldn't be going to football matches fearing for their lives, which seems to be the case when going abroad in European competitions over the past few years.

Chelsea v Tottenham
Stamford Bridge
Saturday, 7 April
Kick-off: 1245 BST
Come on Spurs, do us all a favour and beat Chelsea
Somehow I can't see that happening though.

Let's hope Rio never forgets he's probably handed Chelsea the title this year

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season
VDS cost us another game.. at fault for the first goal as once again he flapped at a shot and didn't deal with it.. even after he did that you could see he started to come for the ball that was loose and then didn't know whether to get it or not
the one time he finally comes off his line Rio does a back pass to him and he isn't there.. once again he hasn't shouted at Rio what he is doing just like Rio has told him all season he needs to do
at his age he will only get worse and worse.. he's cost us against Roma and prob knocked us out of the European Cup and now he's nearly cost us the league

But he kept us in both games on numerous occasions with world class saves. Imo it was the defence for the first goal today that cost us just as much as the mistake from VDS. At least we are still 4 points clear

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season
United fans ain't 'alf bloody melodramatic. Looking at the pictures and listening to them moan, you'd think they'd just been relegated.
In the last 10 years, you've won:
Premier League x 5
FA cup x 3
Champion's League x 1
League Cup x 1.
Including the League/FA cup/Champion's League treble.
You're still top of the league with a 3 point cushion. Get a grip for gawd's sake or support another team in the league outside the big 3 and see what its like going decades without winnng anything.

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season
We expect the success to continue. We've been the most successful team in the Premiership and once you get used to that, anything less is unacceptable.

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season
So could someone remind me... What happens if Chelsea beat Man U and they each won their remaining games? Is it goal difference? or the 2 results from their games? or...?

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season
Goal difference, so it would be likely United will win it as the difference at the moment is very big.

While it was a loss, the Euro cup isn't a complete disaster

VDS, in my opinion, was at fault for both goals. He hasn't learnt from his mistake on Roma, by not punching into touch and he did the exact same thing in the second half. It was lucky that there wasn't a Portsmouth player there.
Why is it that goalies can play a blinder one minute, then have a brainstorm the next? I suppose that they don't really have room to make mistakes.
Oh well...

Melodramatic??? Which fans keep on going about how their team was "poisoned" out of a Champions League place?
Now that's melodramatic...

For the first goal Richardson gave the ball away on the edge of the box which led to the shot which VDS failed to save, then Brown was so slow to react to the ball falling about one meter away from him he allowed the Portsmouth player to go past him and score. Yes, VDS made a mistake by pushing straight back but Portsmouth shouldn't have had the ball, but did because of Richardson, and then Brown should have cleared it. The second goal today was Ferdinands fault imo, you should always look before you pass, which he obviously didn't do.
Yes VDS has made a couple of big mistakes in the past two games but he has also made a couple of world class saves that have kept us in Europe and kept us in match today. I think he is by the far the best goalkeeper at the club at the moment and is the best we have had since Schmeichel.

VDS should have punched it out. It wasn't like he didn't know what could happen, after what happened on Wednesday.

Again, this was VDS' fault, as Rio did what he had to do. If he hadn't, I don't think that VDS would have gotten to the ball before the Portsmouth player. Plus he should have given a shout to Rio.

He is a good player and the best that we have had since Schmeichel, but I'd just wish that he would learn.
Conceding a corner or a throw in, is better than conceding a goal...

And the problem is we won't see another player like Schmeichel for a long time. Who won the premiership more than anyone else in the 90s? No, not United - it was Peter Scmeichel.

I know, but we can hope
I have not seen much of Foster at Watford, but I remember seeing playing for us during the pre-season friendlies and he did look good.
