rp614v4 not working again

i first got it last november,the problem when i connect everything together,switch it all on(one after the other lol)start the wizard it goes into the two detecting screens BUT it always detects a static fixed ip address.
Im with ntl now virgin so i have a dynamic address so it should detect this right?! but never does.
i tryed inputting everything manualy but nothing then i checked the auto detect setting in the lan setting of internet setting restarted everything and guess what it worked!! after the two detecting internet setting screens it detected the dynamic ip address.

it worked fine it fact maybe better than i thought until tuesday when my ntl went down for the day.
Connecting to the stb to the pc its working but through the router it doesnt want to know!! And im back to square one infact getting everything setup when i got it working before doesnt make a difference all it does is detect the static ip address?

I know im wasting my time with it but how do i know if im doing something wrong?or the router is just plain crap or not working!
Any help would be good!!! THX

Sounds like you may need to clone the MAC of your NIC into the router or go back to the start and turn everything off, turn on your modem, wait, turn on the router, wait, turn on the PC. Also try a factory reset on the router just in case but it sounds like when your net went down it was for a reason and you may now have to assign the MAC of the router to your account again.
I have the v7 version of that router and it has not failed me yet so I don't think it's the router, you could always go to the netgear site and update the firmware as well just in case but I think cloning the mac of the NIC/ USB connection while the PC is on the BB and working would be easier.
Oh and it never works if you try to allow the wizzard to run, you have to bypass it by going straight to the basicsettings.html page as described in the manual. It does not understand the VM connection so cannot auto-detect it.

i have the latest firmware on it,and i always do a factory reset it before i try to getting it going again.
But it always detects the static ip,maybe i need to put the mac address on it myself but i cant remember how to find that right now?

you mean winipcfg and its the adaptor address?then just go to the advanced setting input the mac then apply?do i test it then or just restart it all?

Only take a MAC address when you are directly connected without the router and have a working connection.
Then

Start menu
Run
Type CMD press enter
ipconfig /all
physical address line is what you are looking for.

Did you try bypassing the initial screen and moving straight to the basic settings screen?

im still on windows 98,i only use it for the internet now!
so i run winipcfg for my mac address but which one do i use
theres a ppp adapter mac address
and a EZ connect usb to dual speed ethernet converter mac address
i tryed the ez connect mac address and applyed then restarted everything but still nothing

i click on the log of router but it says the wan is disconnected?
maybe my network setting are wrong?

the mac address is the one im connected with now!

i just go to manual setting and not the wizard and the only thing i change is use this mac address and apply and restart everything.

OK rewind, how do you connect to the BB connection? USB to Ethernet adaptor?

i connect through the stb with the ethernet cable to the usb adapter into my pc.

i got it working but im not sure how?
i did check my pc setting first!
i set it all up and restarted everything and it detected the static ip again,so i just looked in the routers setting(i havent done anthing yet)to see whats happened its got my pcs mac address there!
so i just use the smart setup wizard to see what connection i have and it detects the static address,if this is wrong to power down the modem and restart ok but i give it ten minutes before i restart,so then i restart as im watching tv i look at the router to see its on? WTF what did i do!

it would be nice to know what i did?
