Smart card?

I have an old ntl box with one card slot on the front. I phoned Customer Services because i'd lost channels over the last 3 or 4 weeks. They asked "Is the card in the second slot?" I said "There's only 1 slot and there's no card in it". They said "No there will be 2 slots on the front". Having eventually convinced them that I only in fact have 1 slot on the front of my box and there's no card in it then they told me that I can't have *ever* been getting any cable channels as the signal is sent to the card, and if it's not there I can't receive the channels

Now this sounds like nonsense to me

1) i don't remember ever having a card in there and the unit is horizontal so i doubt it would just fall out and get lost

but moreover

2) all my channels came back for a few hours the other day (theyve gone again tho). So how come, if it *has* to have the card to receive the channels since "the signal is sent to the card", then how did I manage to get a full set of channels the other day?

Sounds like they're making it up to me!

Thanks for any info
J

Re: Smart card?

The Left hand side of the STB, where the card slot is, is actually a flap.
it will pull down, and underneath the slot that you can see there will be another slot with a card in it.

Re: Smart card?

If you have a PACE box, there are two slots. The visible one was for other unused functionality. The NTL card is behind the door.

Re: Smart card?

The bit on the left is a flap which opens from right to left
The second slot is in there.

If I recall correctly - the visible slot was originally intended for a Mondex card - which was never used.
