Re: Is This True

I don't know about NTL, but most companies, as part of their IT Security Audit, would have penetration tests undertaken (usually by a reputable firm, though).

Re: Is This True

This is quite well known...

Virus scanning companies such as mcaffee have been said to employ people who have created virues, to create new viruses that mcaffee can then learn to detect.

Firewall companies have been said to employ hackers to try and bypass the firewalls.

Car alarms are actually rated by how long it takes someone to break in without setting off the alarm, ive even seen this on TV.

It happens the world over, If you want to stop a hacker getting into your network, who is better qualified than a hacker thats gone legit?

Re: Is This True

A hacker is just a bloke with the skills to get through code. One man writes the code another man cracks the code its the same in all media with protection. M$hq have in their time have invited hackers to test their code the last time it was cracked in 20 minutes leaving the M$hq code writters gutted.
If someone was hired to test said code or other security means by means of finding exploits then he would be a hacker by definition anyway without actually breaking any laws

Hackers also tend to have a code of conduct its the script kiddies who are the pain in the rectum

Also please remember the hacks used on NTL boxes have never been that sophisticated. On the old DTV boxes it was simply spoof a smart card to the box upload the correct decryption code and cut the return path on the box (note no details on how here just highlighting it didnt take a genius)
