Rediffusion

So intresting question.

My mum wanted to get virgin, but in hull its not possiable. Its a shame as it would save her a fortune.

Anyway, i then remembered that there was a box at the back of the house, that my mum had told me was an old cable system.

Turns out that it was Rediffusion, my understanding is that Rediffusion is out of business now, so what happens to all the old cabling?

I havent looked inside the box, but it sounds like something should be able to be done with it, even if its only Analogue. So i was thinking if noone owns it anymore, what happens to it?

It has to belong to someone, or owned by someone, otherwise anyone could just grab it and claim it as theirs no?

Cor, there's a blast from the past. As far as i know they ceased cable tv years ago. We along with many others used them for years but they have long since gone. I bet the wires are dead or they should be.

I would imagine if the wires still go anywhere that there's no equipment in the headend (if that's still there - might have all been cemented over and built on) to broadcast anything.

Yeah, and both my grandparents, and my 2 aunts... none of them are in a virgin media area, supprised that at least one of them isnt, as they are spread out accross hull.

Im also supprised that you can get virgin anywhere in hull, Kcom dominate the market, even more than BT ever could.

KIT (kingston interactive TV) was way better than virgin when it was avaliable, but it cost them too much to run it.

Re: Rediffusion

Well i still remember Rediffusion showing my age heh, everyone had it where i lived the box was on the window side it had a dial like thing with ABCD ect some were for TV and some for Radio..the TV was a big ugly box thing with a Black & White picture.. If I remember right we only had one channel which was BBC {and we are complaining when we lose a channel out of hundreds}
TV didn't start till about 5 in the afternoon..but we made do and enjoyed what we had..
