Red face NTL/Sitecom Router Puzzle

Since Friday last week I have been unable to have internet access, prior to this I had two laptops and 1 pc all using the same router to access the internet.

I use NTL (Virgin Media) and a Sitecom wireless router, when I connect my laptop to the back of the set top box using a patch cable it works however, when i try using the internet via my Sitecom router it doesn't.

It's a puzzle as my laptop says that there is an Excellent connection to Sitecom but I can't get onto the internet or email etc.

The hardwire direct from my laptop to my set top box only works if my router is switched off as well.

I have phoned NTL/Virgin Media a few times but as they dont support the router they just wont advise on anything, although I am convinced its an NTL problem as I only have one light on the set top box. I have tried restarting the set top box and the router loads but nothing happens.

I dont mind buying a new router if this is the problem as I just need it sorting but I dont think this is the problem as it says "Excellent Connection".

Basically:

Hardwire from set top box to my laptop works (only if i switch the router off - even when I dont have the adapter in the back of my laptop).

Hardwire from set top box to other laptop/pc doesnt work.

Router says excellent but it's like it isn't talking to the set top box (i can get an IP address if i go into the settings).

Do I need to buy a new router? Or is it an NTL/Virgin problem?

Re: NTL/Sitecom Router Puzzle

Well if it works without the router and not with it then I think we can focus efforts there. Have you tried powering off all equipment (shut pc down) and then power up the STB, wait for the lights to stop flashing, power up the router, wait for lights to settle, power up the PC?
Also have you tried a factory reset on the router?

Re: NTL/Sitecom Router Puzzle

don't you need to provide a MAC address of the device you are connecting for the STB box connection?

Try either cloning the mac address of the wired port on your laptop (its a setting in some routers) or i think theres some provisioning page you can goto to update the device you'll be using with the STB.

Unfortantly i don't know the link to it, although hopefully someone else reading this read will be kind enough to post it.
