Fax machine on cable line

Morning all,

Great forum by the way, very informative.

I have taken on a new job where I'll be working from home and as part of my home office I want to connect a fax machine to my home Virgin media (telewest) phone line.

Will a normal fax machine work on this line? Also I need to extend the line to go upstairs, will I just use a normal phone line extension kit?

Thanks.

to the forum.

Yes, you can use BT extension reels.

As for the fax, AFAIK, you can (I certainly had no trouble using a modem on my then Cable and Wireless line).

Yes additional lines are on offer in both ex-ntl and ex-telewest areas.

You need to connect your computer's (usually in-built) modem to a phone socket.

It shouldnt cost no more than £25 to install, BT would charge you £122 for an additional line.

I have used fax machines on Cable lines and never had a problem. To be honest, business phone companies such as Verizon(MCI Worldcom) and Colt use similar phone systems as the cable companies and most businesses have fax machines so dont see why the should offer phone services that cant take faxes! If a telephone line can take dial up internet,im sure it will take faxes.

Re: Fax machine on cable line

Additional Line installs are standard costs. So £30 normally £60 for early mornings & Saturdays
