A teacher whose classroom PC displayed pornographic images to school children faces up to 40 years imprisonment.
|
Quote:
The prosecution alleged that this cycle of graphic images was the result of Amero actively visiting pornographic sites. State Prosecutor David Smith questioned why she didn't simply pull the plug on the PC.
The defence unsuccessfully argued that computer spyware was to blame. Amero claimed she could not control the graphic images that began circulating on the PC. "The pop-ups never went away. They were continuous," she testified.

Re: 40 Years for failing to control spyware
How the heck can they convict her?
"It's easy to understood how someone, like Amero, not knowledgeable about computers, might panic in such circumstances. The license for the school's content filtering software, which (if working) would have blocked the images, had expired."

Only in America...

She tried to stop the students looking at the screen, but several saw sexually explicit photographs. It was school policy not to turn off computers.
|
Surely common sense would prevail in such cirmcumstances... If the policy stated the computer couldn't be turned off, why not just turn off the monitor?

Re: Internet porn pop-ups cost teacher her job and her freedom
well a the schools security was lapse in the extreme . No pop up blockers ??? what OS are they on, The poilce did no check for malware I mean wtf is all that about no firewall no mention of AV,principle saying no one else had problems with pop ups? but if pop ups are not blocked by software on the computer I cant see how other machines are not subject to them unless the machine in question is the only one without protection. On the other side of course a simple restart would have got her out the poop

Even if she was looking at porn and the kids caught a glimpse cuz of pop ups or whatever 40 years is extreme but the charge is causing injury to a minor but still

Shortly afterwards, she says, pornographic advertisements flooded the screen. She says she tried to click them off, but they kept popping up, and the barrage lasted all day...
|
She didn't think to tell someone? Surely as soon as she passed the information on to her "line manager" the problem ceased to be entirely her responsibility.

If the facts are anything like the articles state, her lawyer deserves to be reported to their equivalent of the Bar Council after this debacle, his poor representation has wrecked this women's life, her career and given her the possibility of a jail sentence, whilst I would have thought a jail sentence is unlikely, it just goes to show what a lot of people think, you get whatever justice you can afford there
