Netgear/Xbox/NTL NAT settings

Hi,

Wondering if you can help me here. I have my modem connected to my netgear router and the router into the pc.

I have an xbox360 wireless adaptor attached to my xbox360 allowing me to play xbox live.

The problem i am encountering is that my NAT settings as set to strict and cannot play much multiplayer games.

Can i/how do i go about setting the NAT settings. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Netgear/Xbox/NTL NAT settings

Hi, what sort of Netgear router do you have?

Does it support uPnP and if so, do you have it enabled in the configuration?

Xbox live requires ports 88UDP and 3074TCP/UDP open to function correctly. Enabling uPnP, if available, should allow your console to open these ports on the router automatically.

If your router does not support uPnP you will need to assign a reserved DHCP IP address to your console and manually forward the above ports to that address.

Alternatively you can place your console in the Router's DMZ to bypass the it's firewall and NAT function.

Re: Netgear/Xbox/NTL NAT settings

Uncle Peter is spot on.
I had to switch on the uPnP bit in my router to get the open natting working.
It should be a little tick box.
(Just trying to find the docs on the netgear website, but its not working!)

Found it

Re: Netgear/Xbox/NTL NAT settings

The first thing I would recommend doing is update your router's firmware if you haven't already done so. There should be an option in the setup pages to check for the latest updates and apply them, following the on-screen instructions.

Re: Netgear/Xbox/NTL NAT settings

Tried your advice. No new firmware for the WGT624 v3.

If i do the 'setup wizard' before i play the Xbox it opens my NAT fully. However, when i try to play the following day the NAT is set to strict again.

UPnP does nothing when selected (tbh, it's already selected by default)

Do you mean the router setup wizard or the Xbox connection test?
