Which Wireless Router to use with 10mb

Hi,

I recently purchased a Netgear wpn824 Wireless Router to use with my new NTL 10mb Broadband service, and when I connect it to the Modem and perfrom a Speed Test I get back a result of 1.5mb, if I connect directly to the modem with my PC I consistently get speeds for 10mb using the same speed testing software. I have a wired router which works fine - so it seems to me to be the Netgear causing the slow down. I guess they have not come across this problem before as most people are on 2mb DSL or Cable so wouldn't notice the slow down.

I called Netgear and got through to their "offshore" technical support and was asked if I had loaded the firmware - to which I replied yes, and was then told to return the device for exchange as it was broken - didn't seem to be particularly thorough fault finding - they guy also told me that the Ethernet port would run at 108mb/s - so I was a bit suspicious of his technical background

Looking around the forums it looks like this device is not up to scratch and I am guessing a replacement may not solve my problems - so my question is, has anyone got any recommendations as to which Wireless router to use with the NTL 10mb service.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Jason

Many routers only have a 10mbps ethernet port for the WAN connection, don't know if that's the case for your netgear above. Simply put if the WAN port is a similar speed as the internet connection, things can struggle, especially if the WAN port autosensing of the connection, duplex / half duplex goes awry.

In terms of alternatives, the Linkysys WRT54G or WRT54GS are popular, but I'm sure there are reliable Netgear models out there too.
