how to get a free upgrade
Ring Virgin on 150 - wait an hour or so to get thru !
Then ask to downgrade your tv package because of sky gone ( important mention sky )
You will be offered a free six month upgrade.
I went from L to XL for free.

Then service slips and they lose even more customers. That is a Virgin business decision and should have no relevance if you are trying to get a deal with them!

I got my tv upgraded and my broadband upgraded to 10 meg from 4 and I'm saving £6 in the process.
Large tv, stand phone line & 10 meg broadband for £35 isnt bad.

Re: how to get a free upgrade
Most recent bill is a lot lower than previous... now it's VM I think prices may have come down - they have for me anyway.
and getting the new V+ box this week saves me on the extra STB's too. V+ and another 10 quid a month better off... checked all prices via website and I'm paying what I should I think.

Thats ridiculous, people want to save money and will do so if they can. Its not the consumers problem if people get laid off, that would be the Virgins problem.

What are you going on about!? If Engineers get laid off, the problem is passed onto you when your TV and Internet die and you have to wait 2 weeks for one to come.

Re: how to get a free upgrade
I have to wait weeks for one to come anyway. Its not as Virgin is a small business. I have been with NTL for about 8 years and when a problem has accured its been nothing but a major hastle everytime. Its a business, im not here to fund other people pockets im here to get what deals is best for me. Im sorry but the service has always been appauling, i didnt see NTL (Virgin) in a hurry to give me any money back for loss of service, or days spent in waiting for engineers that never arrived, wrong payments taken out of the bank, hours spent on the phone being past from pillar to post (when to phone was not free) so forgive me if i am not sypathetic about funding other peoples pockets i have my own bills to pay.
One last thing my internet did die, 3 months later it got sorted my tv i sent back as that was off for the most of this time aswell. They didnt know what the problem was as it was happening to a few people in my area, Amazing in the end it was the box tripping out due to a fuse.

Oh come on, climb down from that soap box of yours.
If they couldn't afford to do it then they wouldn't. Believe me, they will still be making money, even if they upgraded every single customer.

And do you base that statement upon examination of the year end accounts, ARPU, EBITDA, knowledge of future investment plans and current/future running costs of the business, debt repayments, etc, etc; or are you just making it up on the spot?

I'm saying it because I know it.
You really think that they would give away something that means that they would run at a loss? Do you really think it costs a lot of money to 'switch on' some extra channels for you?

"know it" - is that like "making it up"?

Nobody said at a loss; it is being offered at a reduced price, as a potential short-term reduction in profits/turnover in order to retain customers, and to retain the ability to cross-sell in the future; unfortunately, in the short-term, less cash-flow is available (reduced prices, reduced profit) therefore investment in capital and operating expenditure could be reduced.

I think the current (non-)negotiations show that it does..... ; switching on the channels just take a quick activation of an option on a computer screen; but you still have to pay the supplier for them, which costs money.
