Slow speed with Linksys router

Hello guys
I am on the 10 meg BB with virgin media, which is connected to 2 Pcs with a Linksys BEFSR81 router. I have done regular speed tests over the past few months and have not got much more than about 6 Mbps which I just learned to live with. I also lose my connection altogether around once a week, which gets sorted by disconnecting and reconnecting the modem and router. I just thought I would remove the router and do a test without it and got a speed of 9.5 Mbps. Are these problems the result of a faulty router or some settings in it. Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Slow speed with Linksys router

This basically means that your Router's "WAN" Port only supports a 10MBit transfer rate, which, with Overheads, etc roughly equates to 5-7MBits left, which is what you are seeing, you will probably need to purchase a new router.

Re: Slow speed with Linksys router

My Linksys WRT54G is a good router, I've never had any speed related problems.

Re: Slow speed with Linksys router

Yes it is a wireless one, but you can turn the wireless off. It's probably best to get wireless nowadays as it will be future proof to you in case you decide to get a laptop or something...
