Terayon to NTL250
I've just got a new 250 modem, I disconnected my old Terayon modem and connected up my NTL250.
Is there anything I need to do as I'm getting 10Mb

Re: Terayon to NTL250
The modem must already registered on your account so i guess you don't, apart from update your profile.
I take it they posted the modem to you for a self install?

Re: Terayon to NTL250
yes I installed myself, i thought NTL were coming tomorrow but it was today.
When I came home the modem was behind my bin with the CD (which I didn't use should I?), no power supply (I've used my Terayon power supply)

Re: Terayon to NTL250
You don't need the CD as that has USB drivers on it and you should be using ethernet at best. As for the power supply i'm not sure. Try downloading a few gig of data to put the modem under stress and see how you get on.

Re: Terayon to NTL250
Any suggestions for sites that can handle 10Mb dowloads?

I'm afraid not as i do all my large file downloading off newsgroups using newshosting and you have to pay for access to that.

Almost the same power supply as the 250 has, only difference is the appearance.
I had a 250 with no power supply also so used my Terayon one and 9 years later its still going strong.

Re: Terayon to NTL250
The power supply is fully compatible. I asked the installer when he replaced my Terayon with a 250. He used my existing PSU.

Usually you have to prove to Virgin it's faulty and they will send an engineer out to replace it. It also isn't capable of providing a 10mbit connection and the best you can hope to get is around 7mbit. Another problem is that it doesn't support QAM256 which Virgin are upgrading to area by area so this would cause you huge problems and it would have to be replaced.
So your best bet is if you've been having problems with your connection (slow speeds or disconnections) phone faults and tell them.
I believe you can also get a new modem if you're prepared to cough up £50 but i think this method is very unfair.
If you're one of the people that bought their own modem years ago, meaning you own it then i guess you can do what you want with it and phone Virgin saying it's stopped working so you chucked it in the bin, as that's what i did and i pointed out to them it was my modem to throw away.
Good luck!
