So long - and thanks for all the fish.
After six years - it's finally time to say farewell to NTL.
Last year - I made the switch to Sky for my tv - and haven't regretted it one little bit - (HD is awesome - Sky+ works a treat - and the remote record function is dead handy).
Until this week I've stayed with NTL for my broadband - but finally sick of paying £35 a month for a 10 meg service - and only getting half that, and a laggy connection - I've finally jumped ship completely.
So - as I write this from my shiny new 24 meg connection - courtesy of Be Broadband - (only £24 per month - with 1.3 meg upload speed) - I just wanted to say bye to everyone that hasn't seen the light yet.
You can change a logo, you can change a name - but if you don't change the network - and don't change the people - it's all just marketing hype.
Good luck everyone!

Re: So long - and thanks for all the fish.
I am sorry that you have had a bad experience - not everyone has.
Good luck, and I am pleased for you that you are happy with your new providers.

Sorry you won't get the choice that we do of all the Video on Demand, and Virgin Central programmes/Catch Up TV.

Sorry you won't get a choice of HD channels. Sorry you won't get an EPG that actually WORKS, sorry you won't get remote record, the ability to set reminders from trailers, oh and sorry you won't get Lost, 24, etc :p
Seriously though - after years of putting up with the ropey old NTL pace box - and it's glitchy foibles - Sky has been a bit of a revelation - and IMHO - the picture quality is better on SD channels on Sky than it ever was on NTL.
Oh - and in response to Schmucks - the BE broadband experience has been great so far. Their customer service is great - I ordered last Saturday - had an email from them on Monday confirming activation date, another email on Tuesday confirming that the router/modem had been despatched, and received that on Wednesday, and was active on Thursday. Just switched on the modem and away it went.
So far speeds have been great - have been synching at 18 meg - and getting about 17meg down - and 1.2 up. The best thing is the latency - it's VERY fast - ping rates are about 3x lower than on my old NTL connection - and if I want them even faster I can ask to be switched to Fastpath - which is even better apparently.
The only fly in the ointment is having to deal with BT for the phone again - but it's a small price to pay for the difference in service.
It's a shame - because I've been a big brand advocate of NTL in the past - because although the customer service was shocking - you could at least say the product was great (at least on the broadband side) - but it seems NTL took their eye off the ball when they increased the speed to 10 meg - and didn't increase network capacity accordingly.
Anyway - i'll keep in touch with the forum from time to time - to see if things improve on Virgin Media! In the meantime - remember guys there is an alternative to dodgy indian call centres - adios

Re: So long - and thanks for all the fish.
The grass may seem green now but if you hit any snags you will soon find Sky can be as useless as NTL Chis' daughter has a sky box which has developed a fault and the picture is pixelating, Sky tech support response: maybe the channels pixelating are due to certain pins on your scart cable not being fully plugged in, certain pins carry certain channels from the box to your television.......
Mind you, it gave me a good chuckle when she told me.
(BTW the Sky box is still faulty)
