ViP Bundle

I rang today to inquire about the ViP bundle and that fact that i did want to swap to this package but had been waiting on any real hard news on a broadband speed increase before makeing any changes.

I was worried that if i had swapped to this bundle i would be stuck with 10mb and then next week they launch 20mb or something so i phoned to clear up a few things.

Firstly after a short period on hold while she checked the CS op came back and advised at this moment in time she can confirm there will be no increase in speeds in the near future. Then she also went on to say although a press release had said 50mb within the first qtr of '07 sadly virgin would not meet this time frame. She said they should be increasing speeds at some point as the tests ran so far seem to say the network can support up to 100mb (Dont think so myself).

On to the ViP bundle info she advised that even if i did switch to the ViP bundle i would be receiving the XL internet (Currently 10mb) and if a new speed was introduced it would come under the XL catagory and i would receive it at no extra cost.

I asked what if it was decided that a new speed was to be released as ViP internet or XXL etc.... above the XL broadband she advised me at this point that switching to the ViP bundle does NOT mean your agreeing to a new 12mth contract and i could cancel it at any time or simply renegotiate a new bundle.

On both the bundles, and T&C's pages it says "You must take all services included in this package for at least 12 months. If you change any part of this package, standard prices apply."

So do we have to have a new 12 month contract, or not?

Re: ViP Bundle

Thats what i was advised i did question it and she said there is not contract and should i decide to cancel the package or downgrade in 2 mths time or what ever they would simply send out someone to collect the V+ box.

Thats why i posted i thought it was a interesting comment she made regarding both the ViP bundle and the broadband update

Re: ViP Bundle

They were trialling 20 meg broadband in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire in 2005, I wonder how that turned out?

---------- Post added at 10:56 ---------- Previous post was at 10:19 ----------

From ntl's report for the third quarter of '06;

"As an end-to-end network owner, we have competitive strengths in the quality of broadband service that
we offer. Customers can receive consistent speeds no matter where they live on our network and our top
speed of 10Mb is available throughout our broadband addressable areas. In November, we will be
launching a commercial trial of a 50Mb broadband service to paying customers"

Re: ViP Bundle

even if VM does intoduce a 20mb as a new service eg xxl. you will still be able to upgrade, the 12 month minimum term refers to the packages you have so you can keep the VIP package and pay the difference (if there is one) to get the 20mb or whatever speed is introduced.

the minimum term is for a package and you cant drop below that package, but you can add to it if you want to eg extra stb's

Re: ViP Bundle

I just upgraded to the ViP bundle and managed to get it for £75 per month,i again questioned the sales dept about the various comments the CS dept made.

This time i was told it is a min 12month contract so it seems they dont all agree with each other (Nothing new there).I also quized him over any future BB speed increase he put me on hold and while he confirmed some details.

He advised that his regional manager was in the office and he advised that there will be a speed increase within the next 3mths and will be branded XL BB.He stated that it could be rolled out now but as its going to be the fastest speeds on offer in the UK Virgin want to run a massive ad campain and that takes time plus they still need to re-brand some areas STB to virgin.

He said his manager did not tell him what the speeds would be but could be either 20 or 50mb he also added anyone who signs up to a bundle now with XL BB and then Virgin do introduce 50mb BB and charge £50 per month for it anyone under a current contract will pay no extra and will still have their speeds increased.

I suppose it's definition of a contract.
If you mean can you have the VIP contract and keep the same price, but drop some of the items - then the answer is no, you have to revert back to an alternative price structure - four for £40 plus the extra premium channel$.

If you had any idea about fibre optic, you would know that 100mb is easily possible, also dont be so ungrateful about the ViP its a great deal as it is, sorry if 10mb isnt enough to get your porn fast enough!

Also V+ and additional STB is a new 12 month contract you were advised incorrectly!!

I am not saying they could not do it i am saying they wont do it,firstly they would need to issue all the users with new modems which would be costly and with the current market there is no reason for them to supply 100mb when the highest speed currently on offer is 24mb.

And no 10mb is not fast enough for me to leech my porn (@ssh*le) and i am sure i am not the only one who would want a faster connection.

Final had you bothered to read the whole thread you will have seen i did sign up to the bundle on a 12 month contract and am very pleased with the deal i received so i dont know where you get the idea i am ungrateful.
