New set-top boxes?

Wondering if Virgin are planning on bringing out new set-top boxes for Digital TV and HDTV?

As the current ones are pretty hideous

Re: New set-top boxes?

There are a number of boxes already in use, a few made by pace and a couple by Samsung. There are no plans for a new standard box.

As for HD there is the V+ HD Box which is fantastic.

Re: New set-top boxes?

Shame as Samsung's products are always smart looking and stylish, shame the only things that can't match their other products are their set-top boxes

Re: New set-top boxes?

What's wrong with the Samsung SMT-2110c? I think it looks pretty smart and it's smaller than the other boxes.

What's wrong with the Samsung boxes? I've had 2 versions of Pace boxes and one Samsung (one pace box replaced with Samsung after endless problmes, 2nd original pace box replaced with upgraded pace box). I've NEVER had problems with the Samsung. Only the Pace ones. Still, with the recent upgrades/updates etc my Pace box is a wreck, but the Samsung is as quick and normal as always.

Re: New set-top boxes?

Hi,
I have had the telewest tv drive box since launch.
On Thursday Virgin are coming to fit a cable modem for the wireless router.
I phoned to ask wether they could change the V+ box for a black one (to match better with our av equipment).
She said at the moment it cannot be changed, but in the near future all of them will be replaced because of rebranding to the Virgin logo.

They will not change people's boxes just cause of the rebrand. If you get a new one or have a faulty one replaced then you will get a new black box.

Does this mean that Virgin Media have stopped giving out the silver V+ boxes (Old TV Drives) now?

Re: New set-top boxes?

Have they got a single standard STB that will work on all of the three networks (ex-NTL, ex-C&W and ex-Telewest)?

P.S. Is there a regional name for the ex-Telewest network (if ex-NTL is Langley and ex-C&W is Bromley)?

P.P.S. When NTL was just Langley and Bromley they were discussing merging the networks and they brought out a Pace box that would work on both as a step towards this goal (which they never reached). Are they any plans to merge the three networks?

The newer Samsung 2110s will work on both networks. There's no easy way for a customer to tell whether a particular box is one of the newer ones though.

Knowsley

There are. The three networks are already quite intertwined, but there's still some way to go to full integration.
