Package Confusion
Hi all,
Been with NTL for years. I currently have all the channels (Sports, Movies), telephone and 2Meg broadband.
I've never been offered or informed about these Hard drive Boxes. First I knew about them was from reading this forum.
I have a hankering for a V+ box. (and the 10Meg Broadband would be nice )
The VIP package works out at £5.00 a month more than I'm paying at the moment but gives me V+ and 10Meg broadband.
Problem is, I dont want a second STB.
If what I've said above is correct, is there any way i can get the VIP Pack without having a second STB ?
Thanks in advance

Re: Package Confusion
to the forum! I'm afraid you can't get the VIP package without getting the second STB.

Re: Package Confusion
Thanks for the fast reply. Can I just have the second box without getting it fitted ?
If not what options do I have to get the V+ box and upgraded Broadband

Re: Package Confusion
At present, at least the way I read the offer, is that if you have the second box, it saves you £75 install fee. Since the contract requires you to keep the package for 12 months, it pays you to have that second STB, even if you don't want it. Just let it be installed in a corner. Then leave it unplugged.

Re: Package Confusion
My problem with the second box is that it would mean running cables across the the house as the other tv is out the back. I dont want anymore cabling, I have too much as it is. i have no use for a second box, i just want a V+ and 10 meg.
Seems ridiculous if I get penalised financially after being a loyal customer from the first day they put cable in the street.
To do things seperately would mean an extra £10.00 fior the broadband and £5.00 for the V+ box would take my bill to £94.00 a month

Re: Package Confusion
Keep the second box and put it in a cupboard for a year then send it back

that would work fine, as long as it is fitted somewhere when its installed, where though doesnt matter and if you unplug it afterwards that is also fine.

Re: Package Confusion
Hi All,
I have the T-drive, already and did not have the second box moved, but removed at the time of install (mid Jan). The other day I rang CS and asked to have the VIP package. I had most already, but it gave me a couple of up-grades and I ended up paying less. Any way at the time the CS representative got a bit confused when I said I did not want the second box. In the end I explained to her that I would pay for it as part of the package (£85 in total) but I didn't 'physically' want it. That sorted the problem out. Therefore in my experience you don't have to have the second box if you don't want it.
Thanks,
Gazzaaa.

Re: Package Confusion
Original poster here.....well, I phoned CS and asked about upgrading to VIP but without the second box (though I said I was happy to pay for it). He said nope cant be done. I asked him to check and he came back with the same answer
A thought struck me.....what if i put a portable telly next to the main tv and said to the engineer stck the second box to the portable (right next to the other box)......then unplug it and stick it in a cupboard.. would that be legit and would there be loads of extra wiring ?

Re: Package Confusion
Just have a word with the installer, if you want them installed together then so be it, its up to you where it goes.

Re: Package Confusion
Keeping the extra stb installed in the same location would give another tuner to record from (albeit to a dvd recorder or vcr) in addition to the three that you record/watch with V+, giving more recording options than almost anyone could need. I'm assuming here that the V+ box can't record from an external source.

Re: Package Confusion
Just a quick update.......a two man team turned up to install my V+ package....they quite happily installed the second box next to my new V+ ( I had an old Pace box which they swapped out for a new Samsung.
I now have the second box in cpboard. The V+ is working fine. Initially I had no channel on 103, not even on the guide. The box froze on me this afternnon so i rebooted. Bow have all channels and so far so good. Maybe my imagination but the picture seems a lot sharper too

When we got our TV Drive Box installed, they moved the old box through to our bedroom (where the cable comes into the house anyway) and ran an extension to the box for us. Now my wife (who is disabled) can watch all the favourite programs in there, and all for only £5 a month extra!
Sky charge £10 for the same service?
