I'm having HD digital Set-top box installed
Hello,
I only just found out that NTL are now providing HD Set-Top boxes with a HDD and only cost £10.00 for the upgrade and £5.00 for the additional Set-Top box I have at the moment and they wave the cost of the engineer, which can be relocated to a room of my choice. Now, I was not aware they were even rolling this out and I have not seen any advertising or news about this at all, I thought NTL would be shouting from the rooftop about this. I called as an off chance and spoke to a rather nice young lady who booked me an appointment and then made the biggest mistake of her career, to explain to me about Set-Top box and what was included and what you could do with the Set-Top box. She said it had an 80Gb HDD which you could record up to 120hrs of recording in HD...? OK that would depend on the format of the program you are recoding, at this point she was completely lost for words and did not have a clue what I was asking.
160Gb HDD will allow 80hrs of recording depending on the format, MPEG-2 SD will allow up to 30hrs of recoding. MPEG-4 HD will allow up to 10 programs to be recorded. Look at the end of the day sales are none technical and do not have a clue about the spec of a DigiBox but they should know about the Set-Top box and a general spec to advise customers. The Set-Top box actually comes with a 160Gb HDD and (an optional 80Gb HDD) am I right in saying the Set-Top box provided by NTL is the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8450DVB HD Set-Top box, if this is the case then NTL should really concentrate on making sure their sales team actually know what they are talking about when it comes to potential clientele. I hope the STB is worth the upgrade because i will be very disappointed if it’s not.

Typical for NTL to go for the least cost effective sollution instead of the most effective sollution.
