Roll out delayed !!!

Well confused.............just phoned CS about TV Drive installation.

They said roll out was 12 Dec 2006 but it has now been delayed until further notice due to tech problems in the trial !!!!

Told me NTL will be promoting via the post

I agree, from what I've heard, The TV drive is very unreliable.

Mike
As in, the roll out in your area, or the roll out over the entire network?

Re: Roll out delayed !!!

That news from Mike doesn't exactly suprise me - its been well flagged up both on here and over at DS about how shaky the Telewest TV Drive's software implementation is and the useability issues that are still ongoing even now with the "revised" code for use on ntl headends.

I think we're beginning to see that the idea of trying to use the buggy TW box and software, rather than going with the SA 8450 DVR that was originally to be built for our side of the network is beginning to be shown to be a bad decision in hindsight - and whats more, the unspecified length of the delay is playing right into the hands of Sky HD.

The longer any delay on further rollout is, the easier it's going to be for Sky to pick off disaffected ntl TV Drive users, together with those who now have no prospect of it coming anytime soon ... again.

(And there's probably no reason to stop orders in Glasgow - they're the guniea pigs for us on the ntl side.)

While I wasn't too pleased about them using the MPEG 2 Telewest box, I can see why they made that decision. If they were still going to use the
SA 8450, then we would probably have had an even longer delay to see HDTV on the NTL Network.

As for the delay - you get different info about TV Drive depending on who you talk to at CS. Someone on this forum rang them up 3 times and was given 3 different HD channel lineups for TV Drive .

CS don't seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if people can ring up tomorrow (outside Glasgow and Teeside) and book an installation date for TV Drive.

Re: Roll out delayed !!!

I phoned up NTL several weeks ago to ask to be reconnected to NTL TV as I was ditching SKY. They persuaded me to get a TVdrive fitted, at first I was reluctant but now I want one. This meant waiting until this Thursday to get it fitted as thats when it is being rolled out in my area (Northants)
After reading this thread I thought I had better ring and check and I have been told it is definately being fitted this Thursday. When I told him that I had read that the roll out was being delayed he checked with another dept. and told me I was going to get one fitted. I'm still a bit dubious but I suppose I will soon find out.

I just phoned and was told I could either phone back next week and maybe get it in before christmas or book now for Jan 2007.
