My physics isn't brilliant, but they still both have electron guns, phosphorous screens, etc. Whereas, LCDs don't give off the same radiation etc.

I am not as well up on employment law as I should be, but I know bits. I know there is a load of health and safety guidlines that apply to CRTs only, LCDs are exempt from.

You do realise that the glass in modern CRTs is heavily leaded?

Whilst looking at light in front of you for hours isn't a good thing the real problem actually is staying focused on one point for a great length of time, the muscles in the eye tire because of this. So actually in effect, LCDs are no better.

The 20-20-20 Rule

When people are doing near vision tasks, such as looking at a monitor, they tend to blink less often. This can result in decreased tear production which leads to dryness of the cornea. A dry cornea will result in blurred vision and irritation of the eyes. To prevent this, follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take an eye break and look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will give you a chance to blink and produce some tears and will give your eye muscles a chance to relax.
Taken for here.
