1 meg connection

Hi,

My dad pays £24.99 for a 1 Meg conection to NTL through our black pace set top box,

Sun, 19 Nov 2006 18:10:00 GMT

1st 512K took 4532 ms = 113 KB/sec, approx 931 Kbps, 0.91 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4562 ms = 112.2 KB/sec, approx 925 Kbps, 0.9 Mbps
3rd 512K took 4328 ms = 118.3 KB/sec, approx 975 Kbps, 0.95 Mbps
4th 512K took 4328 ms = 118.3 KB/sec, approx 975 Kbps, 0.95 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 952 Kbps, 0.93 Mbps

Should he be getting more for his money ?

thanks for reading, and for your help.

Re: 1 meg connection

£24.99 is the price for a 4Mb connection isn't it these days?

Are you sure you're only getting 1meg?? We started out paying that a few years back and the cost has stayed the same, but we now get 4meg

Altho this is current info:

1st 512K took 1453 ms = 352.4 KB/sec, approx 2904 Kbps, 2.84 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1157 ms = 442.5 KB/sec, approx 3646 Kbps, 3.56 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1922 ms = 266.4 KB/sec, approx 2195 Kbps, 2.14 Mbps
4th 512K took 1234 ms = 414.9 KB/sec, approx 3419 Kbps, 3.34 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3041 Kbps, 2.97 Mbps

Hi,

those speeds are fine for a 1 meg connection, but like Druchii says, £24.99 should get you 4Mb/s, these days - trouble is, I don't think a Pace STB can handle it.

As I see it you have two choices, drop to the 1meg tier at £17.99 & save some dosh, or phone NTL & get them to install a stand alone cable modem, so you get the 4Meg you should.

Re: 1 meg connection

Pace 1000 / 1010 STB will handle 1Mbit, nothing over that.

No worries. A SACM is always recommended anyway

Re: 1 meg connection

I was told, the last time I queried this, that the PACE box was not faulty so it could not be changed. "If it aint broke we can't fix it" was my perception of the engineers who have attended.
