Printer recommendations???

Hi all,
I think my long faithful Canon BJC-2000 has finally died. Jobs just get stuck queueing, have rebooted like crazy, uninstalled, reinstalled, checked and cleaned head etc etc...I give up...

So...I thought this is a sign for an up to date replacement...
Can anyone recommend a good one that is:

1) Either Canon or HP (don't really know Lexmark/Brother etc. to trust them)
2) Ideally under £50
3) Parallel or USB, not fussed...suspect they'd all be USB anyway.
4) Has good print quality (of course)
5) Print cartridges that don't cost more than the printer!

I like the idea of a compact one (not exclusively a photo printer though) that will fit on top of some drawers, like a little deskjet type thing...

Any features like bluetooth or builtin wireless adaptor or pictbridge would be big selling points...

Is there a bargain out there somewhere?

Re: Printer recommendations???

Don't bother with Lexmarks as the carts are as expensive as the printer. Do you need photo output or is it just graphics and text? HP are always a safe bet or you could try this Canon ip1600

That Canon looks nice, cheers Paul. My other half has suggested I use her HP PSC1410 (I think that's the right model number). It's been knocking round the house and getting in the way so if I did I could network it through my PC or even buy a wireless printer adaptor by saving money not buying a new printer...
I shall have a think. That Canon is very tempting...

Photo output would be nice or at least good photo quality printing on A4 maybe.

Re: Printer recommendations???

We send these to our customers
this
and have very little trouble with them (our customers use them on ships at sea and don't take good care of them)
Just out of your price request but a very good printer.
Edit:
This one? If so it's the same resolution as the one in my first post so you won't gain anything from a new printer unless you have problems with the all in one scanner/ printer

Re: Printer recommendations???

I recommend an Epson as you can print directly onto dvds with some models if required. I've got the Epson R200 although its been superseded by now, but it's awesome. I've had it a year and still haven't had to clean the print head.

I also use Inkrite replacement cartridges which cost around £3.00 each instead of Epsons original £10 ones and there great quality.

Re: Printer recommendations???

Jobs queuing could just as easily be the PC not sending, as it could the printer not receiving...

Inkjet manufacturers tend to sell their printers cheap (the carrot), but put a high price tag on the cartridges to make their money.

I'm with snoopz on this 1, I got myself a Epson R200 about 1.5 years ago and using the Inkrite cartridges no problems at all

I would go myself as my own person opinion for an Epson again as I think they print the best quality around. My mum got a super dooper Canon photo printer with canon carts but the epson out prints that.
