Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

the usual option is there will be a key combination you can press at boot time that will take you to the internal rom of the raid chip/card.

from there there will be options to set and group X amount of drives to be raid0.

on writing that setting to some part of the drive not normally used for data or bootcode etc, you can then boot as usual and any OS will then see these drives as 1 virtual drive, and you use that as any other drive...

Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

the only thing to rememeber is that if you group several drives of different sizes it will configure them as the smallest drive times x drives.

80,120,160 would end up as a raid drive of 80X3, if you see what i mean.

Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

Why do you want to stripe the drives? if your running the os on it you will gain a small amount performance and lose the versatility of 2 drives. My advice is keep the drives seperate.
If you had to have AMD then you bought the best value/pperformance model at the mo but 2 7600gts hmmm ok ill stay stum lol lol

Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

if the bios can see all the drives as seperate drives then change nothing, if your running sata 2 drives with a sata1 controller then you might need to change the drives setting to sata1 but normally nothing is needed as thats one of the reasons sata was made.

if the bios cant see the drives as seperate drives theres a problem and you wont be able to set them as raid until that is sorted out first.

Hi Mate, Going to be running 2 SATA 80 Gig Drives in a Raid 0 Config but also keeping my 80 Gig and my 300 Gig ide hard drives as storage alongside my 2 optical Drives.

Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

And as for the jumpers on the drives?
2 Drives on a clean install? How do i set them up, I`m a virgin at SATA don`t forget!
On first boot, what do i need to have my SATA drives set as jumper wise? I know i have to have the bios to boot from SATA, and then what?

Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

both drives master
enter bios and ensure sata controllers are set to raid
then when sata controller searches for drives press relative button to enter configuration
RTFM for layout of config pages

Ensure if chipset isnt native you have sata driver floppy disc

boot using windows cd

Install driver f6

install windows

Re: Setting up a Raid 0 configuration.

install all drives before you install windows cuz you could mess up the boot record if there added after. Check to see what will take primary
