They're pretty much different programs - PowerISO is mainly an ISO manipulation program and Alcohol is for burning specialist CD's (such as games, copy protected cd's, etc).

Ah! okie....never really used any of them except to extract .ISO files and .BIN files. thought they might be pretty similar.
In which case, which is better, Daemon Tools or Alcohol?

At this moment in time, I would say Alcohol as thats what I have the experience, but give me 15 mins to reboot the computer so I can finish off the Daemon tools install and I'll tell you....!

If you just want to extract them : winrar is your friend.....
However Daemontools allows you to mount the image like a cdrom / dvdrom that way you can easily browse the contents of the iso without teadously extracting it

Re: Power Iso v/s Alcohol 120%
I love Daemon as it allows me to easily mount a a disk and run it. Never seems to give me any issues either which is a bonus

Thats ok....
Daemon seems to be excellent as a virtual drive manager, will read just about any format and will emulate cd copy protection methods as well, but is still no good for burning the copy protected cd's as mentioned earlier - its only purpose is as a virtual cd manager, but it does this superbly.

Hell, since when did most software that half the world uses become legit? Alcohol has pretty sophisticated copy/activation protection... seems almost ironic given what its best at.

Re: Power Iso v/s Alcohol 120%
Alcohol 120% seriously screwed up my computer. Loads of things buggered up on it. Firstly the computer refused to boot. I then got round that and removed the software. Then had problems with my DVD drive. Then I had problems burning. Then some codecs stopped working. No way in hell am I ever touching it again.

I like Alcohol 120% - used it for a year never had a problem with it - if you want it or PowerISO go here:

There both the same.As has been mention win rar will extract iso files but not .img files so another app is required. Daemon tools purely is an emulator and virtual disk device which will allow you to mount an image file and run it or extract it.The beauty of Daemon is the emulation of securerom laser lock and safe disk. IIRC Alcohol 120 uses the same software to create and mount the virtual drive plus has the bonus or cd/dvd writing but if your used to nero or something else you dont need this. Both are on my pc daemon gets used daily Alcohol120 rarely as DVD decrypter will write MDS MDF files

Am used to nero so there's few chance of me moving to anything else. But I will probably get Daemon Tools and wave goodbye to Alco.
I wouldn't want to be in the same mess as Punky.
This is getting quite interesting. Am getting to learnt a lot about something that i have never really used.
Thats the beauty of this forum...however stupid u r, there are some nice people to remind u that
Nah, realy...there are some nice people who just help u out regardless of how stupid u might seem!
Cheers lads...And cheers to whoever runs the forum!
