Disconnected my ntl master box, please help
Hello, just signed up and I've got a question if any one could help?
I've pulled my ntl master telephone box (the one immediately inside my house where the external cable comes in) off the wall whilst plastering, thinking it wasn't in use. I've searched all over the net for a diagram to wire it back up but all I can find are BT instructions.
I have 5 wires from the external cable as follows orange/white white/orange green/white white/green and blue/white.
I have 5 wires which go on to the extensions, which are identical.
My master box has sockets A and B and 1,2,3,4,5,6 but there is an extra socket in between A and B which is un-named.
---------- Post added at 21:21 ---------- Previous post was at 21:14 ----------
Sorry forgot to ask, can any one offer me any advice on wiring them back up.
Thanks

i beleave its £25 for an NTL:tw bloke to come out and fit or move a phone socket, so you might just get them to do it.

Re: Disconnected my ntl master box, please help
you should call NTL as you have a 6 pair cable going into your house, but from what you have described you have the blue cable which pairs with the blue-white is missing. The tech will need to match the colours up in your master with the colours that are connected in the box on the outside of the wall (and they are usually use the blues). He'll also be need to krone in your extensions properly to make sure these are working as there are various ways they could have been connected originally. Good luck

Re: Disconnected my ntl master box, please help
Maybe the £25 isn't so bad, but if I could do it, it would be better.
I'm not sure I'd get away with the vandalism route as the wires which go on to the extentions are removed also.
Paul, I found this page before I posted but my problem lies in the fact that this diagram shows only orange and white wires going into the box which are the BT wires (I know this because I also ripped out an old BT box which was destroyed by the NTL installation engineer when he fitted NTL and the wires hanging out are Orange White Green and Black as described as the Drop cable from the out side world in the article).
I need to know which wires go into the A and B sockets. I need the same sort of thing but for a NTL system.
Thanks to you all for your help so far.
Free wheelin.

Re: Disconnected my ntl master box, please help
in theory ,as long as the 2ends connected in the master( A AND B) are the same 2 ends that are connected to the external(drop)cable, then it will work.
however,it is more than likely that it needs to be the white/blue to a and the blue/white to b.
extensions should only require(on a 6 pair cable) to be connected
2 to orange/white
3 to green/white and
5 to white/orange

Thanks, my problem was in the fact that I couldn't see the white/blue wire on either end it had been stripped back into the cable.
I've resolved the issue now I have 6 wires on either end.

WHAT?
---------- Post added at 19:11 ---------- Previous post was at 18:51 ----------
DOH!
Actually i think i may of over complicated things by automatically trying to explain how a "backfed" extension works.
in simple terms(which i assume spike is refering to )then an extension would be connected using the 2blues and an orange connecting to 2,5 and 3 for the ringer.
my appologies,i must of been having a "blonde"moment.

I thought particle physics was complex but it appears that you need a Masters to get a telephone to work
