I have my email client set not to display html so i am assuming that the gif which is apparently attached may contain something malicious?. I now get loads of these and it curious how many ntl subscribers are in the cc list.

Heres another strange example...

The strange thing about this one is that no where in it can i see my email address unless ive missed it so how did it end up in my in tray???

Can /Will NTL do something to combat this rubbish? Its costing time and money and infrastructure to ship this rubbish around.

Meanwhile,,does anyone know of an email client which will allow me to just download the from/subject header and leave the rest on the server so that i dont spend time downloading rubbish? Ideally i would like to be able to read yahoo/hotmail accounts also. I dont need spam killers etc becuase most of them seem to need you do download the full junk messages then have it filtered off to a separate folder. My need is to quickly download the header/bare minimum to identify it as rubbish then leave it on the server or auto delete it from the sever.

Thank s for all advice/input,,

joe

ntl have been filtering spam for a year or 2 now. Have a look here:-
http://www.ntlworld.com/digitallivin..._zone=7736.7.1
You can choose how you want ntl to handle suspected spam

I use "mailwasher". Rather than have my suspect spam autodeleted by ntl, I have it marked as "SPAM?". I can then choose whether to delete it from the server via mailwasher or download it via Outlook Express.

I was a bit skeptical at first as to how well the spam filter would work, but I must admit, it seems to weed out the spam very well. Very few spam emails are missed, and only 1 wanted email was marked as spam in all the time the filters have been in use.

Just found the original thread discussing the spam filtering:-
