DIY 2nd Telewest digital t.v. box install. HELP!
I have Telewest phone, digital tv and broadband. I have aquired a 2nd digital tv box and I would like to install it myself into my bedroom, Where the broadband is.
I have a little white junction box fitted to the wall just outside the bedroom, and from that a co-ax cable goes into the modem. Can a digital tv box be wired into this junction box or does it have to be wired to somewhere else in the house.
Can anyone tell me exactly how this can be done and if I need any special connectors etc and where I can get them.
Thanks

Can we have a sticky over this guys as it's coming up more and more.
In a nut shell you've acquired a rather strange shaped door stop.
The box will not work on the network and you'll only get channels 1-5 if you're lucky. If you want a second box the only way to go about it is to pay NTL:TELEWEST for it (about £15 a month I believe is the current charge).
If you bought it off EBay then I suggest you try and get your money back - if you got hold of it from another source then just bin it - it's useless, sorry.

The box is a genuine telewest box, with a card, the same as I have got at the moment. Can you explain briefly why it wont work? and what does the Telewest engineer do that I can't do if I pay the £15 a month for them to install one?

It won't work because the serial number and smart card details are linked to your account. The only way you will be able to get any service from the box is if you phone up and explain that you have the box and wish to add it onto your account. The problems with that is:
1) They'll want to know exactly how you came by the box without the installation being booked via them - if they will do this for you they'll probably ask (quite rightly too) a few questions.
2) If you get passed point 1, when they add the second stb onto the account and send down the channel package to it that your paying for, it will add on the second stb charge of £15 anyway.
Hence why the box you have is as noted earlier just a glorified doorstop.

What your trying to do is illegal. The second box doesn't belong to you, it belongs to NTL. If you want another box then you have to pay for it.

If it's a "chipped box" (unlocked to all the channels), would this make a difference? Would this work if I wired it up myself?
And yes I know its illegal.

Even if it's a chipped box it probably wont work as the levels on the cable will be all wrong.

And even if it did work it would not work for long as they would block it because what you want to do is illegal!
