Re: Friend's computer is virused up to the max

Okay everyone, I think I sorted it.

The hard thing to remove was that crappy virusblast scareware.

All the other stuff came out with AVG, Spybot and Adaware.

I realise there may be some stuff lurking so will go back round next week and do another scan with different programs.

If you had a backdoor infection might be worth checking for rootkits, if HD uses NTFS, GMER is a brilliant scanner, or Backlight beta, AVG are doing a rootkit scanner too also beta.

Re: Friend's computer is virused up to the max

get HiJackThis

Look for anything suspicious - get it to make logs etc. - boto up in safe mode and redo - delete entries writing down specific locations of the files, delete them if possible... if not leave it for now...

reload OS normally and everything should be hunky dory - if the files are still there they should be able to be removed. if not look for "rundll32.exe" in task man, perfectly harmless.. normally..
