Re: [Merged] ITV3-coming to ntl??

It's a shame about the demise of Plus as it was one of the few channels with a range of popular programmes.

My wife enjoyed watching Remington Steele and is hoping that it will appear somewhere in the ITV3 scheduling, but I'm not holding my breath.

I did get an e-mail from Plus to say that they were closing down and when I checked their channel (101 on the Bromley Platform) they were displaying a Granada Sky Broadcasting logo.

This made me wonder what NTL will use that channel number for as ITV3 is on channel 8. Maybe, that logo will eventually disappear or pehaps the number will be reallocated to another channel.

Perhaps, Sam B can enlighten us as to what is happening.

It was promoted as available on digital cable & Freeview. No mention of analogue.

The Picture is crap, just like the FILM 4 CHANNELS, which I got rid of for that very reason. Shame about PLUS.

Re: [Merged] ITV3-coming to ntl??

well what a waste that channel was last night.. A Complete load of rubbish on it and it was only on from 21:00 for a few hours then it goes into a shopping channel all night.

Anyone know what the actual point of ITV3 is apart from making money through advertising ?

I can just see it being full of repeats and no real alternative to the Corrie, Emerdale soap rubbish we get at the moment.

ITV appears to be worried at the fragmentation of the viewing audience from the traditional, all-ages model into channels specially devised for certain age groups. It's trying to protect its advertising revenue by ensuring it still has slots that advertisers who want to reach thirtysomethings will pay for.

In the light of the pasting BBC3 got the other week, in a report that questioned the need for such a narrow focus on age groups, I'm not so sure ITV has got its strategy right.

Re: [Merged] ITV3-coming to ntl??

Is it true ITV3 will NOT be on the Analogue service? If so, just what the hell am I paying for? This is another channel dropped from our service and seems like NTL are deliberately alienating their Anlogue customers in an effort to force us to go digital.

My mother is absolutely furious, I had to stop her phoning NTL up as she'd would have laid into them something rotten, and probably got us cut off permanently, she's that mad!

We have 2 Analogue STB's as we can't afford 2 Digital boxes, that's why we still have Analogue, now we are getting even less for our money I think we should get a reduction in our bill if ITV3 is not being offered! But I can see us cancelling as Granada Plus was one of the channels my Mother always watched, now what is she going to do?

Re: [Merged] ITV3-coming to ntl??

I am coming into this very late so apologies. But, if anyone's still interested, I can give some background info.

We were planning to launch ITV3 yesterday to digital viewers only, which we did - channel 8 on Bromley and 118 on Langley.

We weren't told anything about Plus closing down until late yesterday, as it was happening. This was the same for Sky and Telewest customers. So, we had no time to prepare any kind of communication for customers. We now have messages up on both analogue and digital, which should be in all areas, saying that the channel is no longer broadcasting, and directing digital customers to ITV3.

ITV have asked us to advise the following:
Plus has become ITV3. ITV3 will show your favourite Plus programming as well as Hollywood Movies and great shows from the US. ITV3 is available on Freeview, Sky, ntl and Telewest, and broadcasts 24 hours a day.

I have a number for their duty office if anyone wants to ask them more specific questions, but they have advised that it is currently very busy, so PM me directly if you want this.

Our analogue customers have clearly been the most affected as they have lost a channel which hasn't been replaced. Apologies, but we simply didn't know that this would be the case and so it was never a part of our discussions so this is only being looked at now.

Someone else asked what plans we now have for the digital channel numbers that have been freed up, but I wouldn't think we would make any changes once the Plus channel (now with message showing on it) is removed, later this month.

Sam

And you think that's funny?

I have lost a channel that will not be replaced with ITV3, my bill will still be the same but I am now getting LESS for my money! My mother takes comfort in watching TV as my father died last year and it gives her something to do and watch in the evening and Plus was her favourite channel. I don't see anything funny in belittling Anaolgue customers because we are getting yet another raw deal!!

Valid point, but what's the point of ranting at ntl? It's nothing to do with them. The channel has been pulled by its owners, who do not want ITV3 on analogue.

Analogue is an obsolete service and no new channels will be launched on it. Sky and ntl told their customers this years ago, with the crucial difference that Sky FORCED its customers off analogue onto digital. ntl and telewest still give existing customers the choice whether to upgrade to digital, but if you decline, it's no good complaining as the channels drop off. Sorry, but that's the harsh reality of it.

You don't get the choice if you live in a NTL analogue only area, you just keep getting less and less for your money. As they lose channels on analogue they should reduce the price for it.
