no phone, no help, no nothing!
Hello all. I have been trying to contact customer services for the last 3 days as my phone has no dial tone but if you ring my number it has a ringing tone! But my actual phone does not work. Checked the connection, checked the batteries on handset and base and also with my spare handset. There is not even any crackiling just an eerir silence. I finally did get through to c/services to report my fault but the lady there said I had pressed the wrong button and would have to ring again! I know I did not.She said I had pressed 2instead of 3 or summat. Rang back, on hold for29 minutes and have now given up. Anyone else's phones playing up? I am in Nottingham.

I had this problem - it sounds like a loose wire in the cabinet. I thought it was my phone at first, but tried three different phones and the same thing happened. The engineer didn't even need to get into my house to fix it - they checked the cabinet before getting to my house, fixed it and rang me to let me know it was all ok. Ring through to faults again, insist that your phone is not the problem, and that you need an engineer to come out and check the wiring in the cab. HTH

Re: no phone, no help, no nothing!
I had the same problem too on my second line....as OB said sounds like a loose connection in the cabinet (which was my problem too apparently).
But, they were pretty good at sorting it, a phone call to faults, they came out on a Saturday morning, checked the line, checked the box, all done in 30 mins.
For what it's worth I've found that (and don't quote me on this) calling between 8.30 and 9am gets you through to someone much quicker.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hello, its now friday evening. Spent a total of 39 minutes earlier waiting on ntls customer services to answer but as life goes on could not wait anymore. Will just have to persevere methinks. Thanks for replies.

Re: no phone, no help, no nothing!
Were you trying to get through to customer services, or faults? Make sure it's faults (Option 2 on 0800 052 2000 in most areas), otherwise you'll get transferred - which could mean another long wait!
Also, if you can, try phoning as early as possible - 8am Mon-Fri or 9am Sat...

Re: no phone, no help, no nothing!
Assuming it is your phone line that is messed up, I think ntl should have a 24 hour fault reporting service for phones only, as phones unlike any of their other services could be an emergency requirement (same reason why you should always have a standard phone in your house as well as cordless, you need it to work in case of a powere failure). Try dialing 151 which in many ntl areas is the old phone fault reporting no. You may get told to redial somewhere else, but that may not be to the normal faults centre.
