HTML Question

I have a question for the HTML kings and Queens among us.
Using html to build a webpage, I have come accross a wee problem! I have inserted a picture, I have, using the command line
<a href="http://www.ncma.org.uk"> given the picture a hyperlink. My problem is, how do I get it to open in a new window.

Please answer as if talking to a 10 year old

as my grasp of html is very limited, and thats being kind!!

when you say a new window do you mean a new instance of your browser?

if so you need to use

<a href="http://www.ncma.org.uk" target="_blank">

However targeting a link to open in a new window violates the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and (if you're in the United States or other country with comparable antidiscrimination legislation) is quite possibly illegal under federal civil rights law.

You'll need to change the link to this:
<a href="http://www.ncma.org.uk" target="_blank">

What altis said is 100% correct, but a couple more things that might help you about it.

you can replace "_black" for "framename" if you have frames, to open a link in a frame.

Also, if you have more than one link, add this to the <head></head> section above the <body></body>:

<base target="whatever">

And it will apply, as default to every link.

You can actually put any name in the "target=" if you want.

Wow, thats heavy!! Both the sites in question are genuine, one is a govenment site for childminding, the other is the childminding association. I didn't wnat to write below the pics, please right click and open new window. I thought it would be better to set it up to do it for the "viewer". Would I still contravien the law with these sites??
