had to refresh the page about 5 times just to get google to work.
rebooted the router and modem.

hopefully if you are right a new ubr will sort everything out.
(no i didnt ring cs, didnt get home til 8pm and i dont want to spend 1hr of my life going through the same questions over and over )

OH FFS, its started doing it in online games now. How do you go about cancelling just broadband till they fix it proper?

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
Well I took the plunge and waited the XX Number of hours to get through to support. Though first I called the Status line just to make sure. Anyhow, reported the fault, which they knew about - so with any luck they might well "fix" it again (is this the 5th or 6th time now?).
Which leads me onto another question, NTL have the status page and the telephone status line - my thought on this was quite simple, if there is a known fault in a area, then people can either check online (if they can get online) or at worst call the status line. The theory of this is less calls to Support to take up a persons time going through a problem when in fact it is known about.
Now this is definatly not the case is it...not once have I seen or heard of the current problems people have been having even though everybody and there dog knows about it. What I could not understand is I went through the entire fault diag on the phone and then to be told "oh we know there is a problem in Scunthorpe - we are working in it and Hope to fix it" - so why waste my time and his going through the obiuos checking of power levels, my pc connection and go d knows what else when he knew there was a outage effecting most of Scunthorpe? Sounds daft to me..
I too have been thinking about swapping over to ADSL for some time, the problem is for years Scunthorpe Cable modem to me knowledge was fine then we have one problem after another, a 56k Modem can work faster and better than what I have now. Of course swapping to ADSL might well make it all better but there is no Guarantee that similar problems wont happen on that also.

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
same here im in 2 minds whether to switch to adsl.
the last 2/3 months in scunthorpe have been stop start... kinda put a stop to my online gaming at the minute.
if it is sorted soon think i will take the plunge and get adsl, only problem is im unlikely to get any other than 512kb.
so its a bit of a step down.
come on NTL
please get it sorted.

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
Hi all ...new to forums so hope this works.I also live in the DN16 area of Scunthorpe and have been having the same probs since way back also. For the second time this month after a repreive of about 1 month the same old timing out errors are back!!!
Have made several calls to customer support (who can see that this is happening) to be told today that the problem is not worth reporting as a fault !!??..after months and months of frustratingly poor customer service i am now at the end of my tether and am looking into changing service providers.
I was thinking tho..isn't it about time we undervalued Scunthorpe customers should somehow get together with a petition or something to voice our dissatisfaction on the whole with NTSmell!!
Was also told today that Scunthorpe is a problem area but that there is little that can be done for us (quote from Nick at CS).
What do you think guys??...perhaps they want a bunch of us to cancel so that they are no longer over-subscribed??!!

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
maybe that's what we need to do, all kind of gang up on them. Maybe if enough of us can get together and tell then fix it or loose us. How many would be enough to make a difference? £3000.0 0 or so per month
100- 120 users.

You what?!? Well if that *is* true then it explains why it is all being kept hush hush, cos if they genuinely can't solve this problem then its guaranteed customers will be leaving in their droves. Please can someone tell me this customer services chap was just simply trying to fob the guy off, rather than having actual true knowledge.

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
In DN16 myself, and what was a good service has gone downhill fast. When I first got BB, Tech supp was an 0800 number with a person on the line and the fault was fixed while I went for a walk, followed by a courtesy call to ask me if service was restored.
The upgrade to 750K has been pretty meaningless.
Let's hope that the report thet the UBR is to be replaced tonight are correct, dare I hold my breath??

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
Just got off the phone to CS again...have sent trace routes from several sites and they have finally acknowledged that there is a fault.
They say they have recieved 32 calls concerning this fault and are now looking into it.
Iknow it is a complete pain in the ass phoning CS but the it seems the more calls they recieve the more serious they take it.

well its phone for me tomorrow ....... no matter how long I'm on hold .......

Re: Bad connection in Scunthorpe (again)(long)
Would it be possible if some Techie NTL person who by mere chance passes by this site to maybe, if possible explain what is going on, today is now Friday 10:30am and still I am struggling to get sites up...
Surely if its a faulty UBR you have spares somewhere you can replace it with?
