Cancelling TV service

I want to cancel my TV service (for various reasons). If I ring CS on Monday, is this something they do immediately (i.e they switch off TV service there & then) or do I have to wait for an engineer to come out etc etc ? Reason for asking is I want arrange Sky installation ASAP. Thanks.

Re: Cancelling TV service

They can usually do it over the phone - how far in to your contract are you? Or have you been with ntl for more than 12 months?

Thanks. Yeah, been with NTL for years. Time to change TV at least. Just is no comparison to Sky and don't see it improving (despite so called software 'upgrades')

Re: Cancelling TV service

The reason I'm asking is that you wouldn't be able to drop ntl so easily if it was within the first 12 months of your contract.

I'm sure one of the ntl peeps will be along soon to confirm if it can be done over the phone instantly....

30 days notice, plus you'll actually need to call Customer Relations on 0800 052 1474.

OK now here's something for you to think about

Got NTHELL phone, tv and broadband in January. Service is shocking. Want to drop them.

Realise the whole 12 month contract thing BUT.... have found the contract I was supposed to sign and send off! So they havn't got this!!!!

Def. NOT the customer copy!

Very tempted to just cancel the direct debit and sit back and laugh.... if I have no official agreement with them, then surely all they can do is get steamed up for a couple of months before they realise they can't do jack????

your use of the service and payments that you have already made imply you have agreed to the contract... this is how it would be seen in a court.

Surely if NTL isnt supplying a constant good\reasonable service then this is reason enough to give 30 days prior to 12 months?
Isnt NTL in breech of contract for not supplying a constant full service?

We signed for our CTV on sept 10, and cancelled yesterday after 21 days. I would like to see them take me to court.

Perhaps, (bearing in mind their contract states they cannot guarantee a full working service all of the time, this would be the same as any Telco company) but you need to give them reasonable opportunity to put right the faults. If there are no records of you reporting the service problems then should it manage to get to court, it's very unlikely the ruling would go in your favour. Bear in mind that ntl are a business and want to make money from you (a reasonable expectation) and if people cancelled the contract for frivolous reasons without giving them the chance to put things right then they are going to lose a LOT of money. Not good business practise on the part of the customer and a court would probably agree.

Re: Cancelling TV service

Cheers for the replies fellas,

I think your comment Monkeybreath is what I was wondering about specifically. If I've been using their service that implies I agree to the terms of the contract?

Ah well, at least I can ditch their lousy, mono-sound TV package in January!
