Freeview through telewest?!
Hi i been thinking about buying a freeview settop box and also currently have telewest digital in my house. i was wondering whether i could access the same freeview channels through the telewest cable line instead of having to install an aerial and spend loads of money on that. is that possible or will i have to spend an extra £15 a month on another telewest settop box. thanks in advance

Re: Freeview through telewest?!
you won't be able to access freeview channels through the cable, if you wanted a freeview box you would have to get an aerial or spend £15 a month on another Telewest box

Scooby is correct. If you get a Freeview box, it will have to be connected to an aerial - not the cable. The other option is, as you say, to get a second Telewest set-top box.

damn...
thanks for replying. i was really hoping that it would have worked it would have saved me alot of money. oh well, i think ill go for the £15 extra a month for another telewest box so that i get loads more channels. i think that having freeview through a wire would be kool cuz round birmingham we got too many trees and can never get any reception , thats why i aint got sky !

I suspect he may be alluding to the fact you can get some un-encrypted channels directly from the cable, without an STB???? (Don't know about the Sky bit).

Re: Freeview through telewest?!
I think he's getting at the fact that you can get some analogue channels by plugging the cable straight into your TV.
Mind you, 15 bucks a month for a 2nd box, 60 bucks for a Dbox2...

Re: Freeview through telewest?!
on NTL/Telewest and Sky, you will get some of the channels that you get on freeview, and on sky you will get these without having a subscription.
You will NOT get the digital signal needed to feed a freeview box through either Telewest or NTL.
By plugging the cable tv feed directly into your tv then depending on your area you may get some channels, namely off airs ie 1-5, and some cable channels, this was set up as when cable companies first came around they had a habbit of cutting the feed from people's ariels to keep them on cable for ever. but when people left and found out this had happened, the cable companies pipe the off airs out so they can be picked up.
You can sometimes get QVCand a couple of others as well, but you wont get the digital freeview channels.
