NTL & Telewest shareholders urge merger negotiations
A merger is just around the corner now...

According to the Sunday newspaper, one shareholder says: †œIt makes sense for the two companies to merge as soon as possible, because together they will be able to launch a formidable marketing campaign †“ and a more lavish one, after they have realised cost savingsââ‚à ‚¬Ã‚ÂÂ.

Re: NTL & Telewest shareholders urge merger negotiations
That's what we have been saying all along.
A merger is likely in 2005.
Nothing suprising about this news, there is still a bit more fat to trim off both companies before they merge.
Also important (you'll note) is the broadcast sell off. It'll give ntl plenty of cash to help merge and also the broadcast division would not fit into the plans of such a massive cable com.

I think a merge is a great idea. the integration of the networks wont be to hard as telewest runs on the same system as ex-cwc if i rember rightly, and hopefull urge an upgrade of orig-ntl areas, and we can finnaly compete with sky

I suspect they'll do what Sky and British Satellite Broadcasting did - they went for British Sky Broadcasting, theoretically abbreviated to BSB but ultimately referred to just as 'Sky' - or as 'B Sky B' by some business journalists - basically by the name of the company with the better reputation.
In this case, look out for a clever use of the fact that NTL is already known just by its initials and that one of those is a 'T'. National Telewest Limited, anyone? That leaves open the possibility of being called either NTL or Telewest, or both - NTL for business use, Telewest for consumer marketing. I guess it really depends which brand has the greater cachet. I have no experience of Telewest so I really don't know.

I think its the cwc areas that require the upgrade!
London etc!
