Re: Windows Media Player 10
I found that it still doesn't play DVDs in surround sound, it must be my settings
Also, DVDs seem to have the brightness cranked up way too high so I'll continue using PowerDVD for now.
Apart from that, it's a definite improvement.
I like the new GUI, quality.

Must be your settings, it plays the AC3 stream perfectly, comes up AC3 on my decoder and sounds excellent, also the brightness seems fine for me, just out of curiousity, do you have any other DVD codecs installed? to use WMP for DVD's I installed only the PowerDVD codec. Just watched a bit of return of the king on WMP10, haven't seen it yet, quality is most excellent.

Re: Windows Media Player 10
Same as you Bifta.
The LOTR DVDs are superb, the encoding is a little lame though because of the length of the films.
If you're after the ultimate in DVD quality then you should try Superbit:

Good man.
The thing that annoys me about DVD is the compression, the next thing to sort out is the crap resolution which looks rubbish on a 19" PC monitor.
Thankfully, I've managed to start downloading HDTV shows over the net...

Re: Windows Media Player 10
Always check out play.com before amazon for single dvds (not box-sets). No postage either if you're just getting 1 dvd.

Re: Windows Media Player 10
I could but that would be a "conflict of interest" with this being a family forum etc...

Re: Windows Media Player 10
I've installed the Beta and I seem to have lost the ability to view info about the band/album currently playing.
Has anybody else experienced this? How do I get it back?
