Many thanks in advance.
What speed you on? Does the client show a greenlight or yellow?

Can I remind people that the speed depends how many peers/seeders are in the torrent.

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent (ports 6881 to 6889)

Hi all,

Desperate help needed here :-(

I am with NTL on 1mb, but getting awful download speeds using Shadow Client.

I have configured Norton to allow the ports etc, switched off my xp firewall, but no joy:-(

I read somewhere in the forum that SHAD0W'S BT client lets you set your IP address so that the tracker won't use the NTL proxy.

I'm pretty ignorant at this, and was wondering if someone could take the time out to give me an idiot's guide (no really, I am an idiot) on exactly how to do this

Please ?

Many ta's

This means your ports are still being blocked by something. Check your firewall again.

Okay - am using Norton Internet Security and this is the steps I took:

1. Went to personal firewall - checked on BT Client.
2. Allowed it to use TCP & UDP Protocols.
3. Allowed it to use ports 6881 to 6889

Still the same results :-(

Do you know how I can configure the shadow client to set lets you set my IP address so that the tracker won't use the NTL proxy ?

Thinking this may be my only hope.

Still the same - have a torrent with 13 seeds and 12 peers - download is running a 3k
Does it have anything to do with this below ?

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent (ports 6881 to 6889)

Although I don't use NTL, I have received the download error message "rejected by tracker - Port 6882 is blacklisted." The site had this help: Why is my port number reported as "---"? (And why should I care?)

The tracker has determined that you are firewalled or NATed and cannot accept incoming connections.

This means that other peers in the swarm will be unable to connect to you, only you to them. Even worse, if two peers are both in this state they will not be able to connect at all. This has obviously a detrimental effect on the overall speed.

The way to solve the problem involves opening the ports used for incoming connections (the same range you defined in your client) on the firewall and/or configuring your NAT server to use a basic form of NAT for that range instead of NAPT (the actual process differs widely between different router models. Check your router documentation and/or support forum. You will also find lots of information on the subject at PortForward http://portforward.com/).

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent (ports 6881 to 6889)

OK on my 600k connection thru a router im not downloading anymore than im uploading and my upload is limited to 13kb/s. Im currently connected to 2 seeds and 30 peers. My share rating has been between 0.75 and 2, now its at 1.25.

Router has ports 6881-6999 forwarded
Xp firewall is disabled
No errors in the bt experimental client
Only ie is used now and again for sites
In total there are 34 seeds and 1350 leechers
Read every single faq and guide and problem yet still cannot solve this.

Surely it cant just be that im getting these sh1tty speeds since 8am this morning?

Any ideas?

Thanks

It's probably the problem - if the selfish leechers aren't sharing the speed is so diluted you will only get a small portion. Using the advanced tab can you see how fast the others are downloading?

Downquark,

How do you know they are being selfish?

jtwn,

Have you actualy tried throttling the upload bandwidth? Because if that maxes out then it will affect your download speed.
