Well said Russ. I very much do take exception to it and the comments made by Nikko are what i was getting at in the other thread in website discussion about people getting put off from posting.

Re: The Anti-Big Brother Thread!! :D
i watched the first series and then quite frankly got fairly bored of it all..... watch it now and then when im totally bored and there is nothing else on tv.... and if i do watch them i tend to wait until the last couple....
it's the same with pop idol...watched the first series and then didnt watch any of the others.... they start off fairly good but then instead of quitting while they are ahead they do the same inane stuff and it gets boring and eventually people stop watching it
however i can understand some people enjoy it.... my ex was a fanatic.... made me watch it all the time.....

Maybe she was but i think she could have put it accross better. Smiley's come in handy to say when someone is joking and her post seemed to be lacking in any so i thought she was being serious.

Well spotted, towny EOB, paulyoung666 and others that were amused, and have communicated this. I rather felt most Members here would recognise that from my usual posting habits.
I am sorry if anyone actually took it personally, and especially if they took a deliberately ridiculous & light hearted widesweeping generalisation to be aimed at them
Oh and while I am clearing things up, Martin, I am a bloke

Done..
Now, on to Big Brother. I have to admit, when I first saw it I did like it, but didn't really go out of my way to watch it (I enjoyed it if it was on). Now, (particularly after BB4) I find I would rather have my teeth pulled than watch another episode.
I think the problem is that the contestants have wised up to Big Brother, and play up to it now, where as for the first couple of years (particularly BB1) , they didn't really know what they were doing so just seemed to act normally. Of course. normally is a relative term, and I do think some of the contestants were a bit, well, round the bend.
Then we had BB2. The contestants started to play up a bit. Particularly Brian Dowling (who could, admittedly, be quite funny). With BB3, the whole thing became a bit of a farce with all of the contestants acting up to some extent. And then, BB4.. Lets just say that watching paint dry was far more interesting than watching that bunch of wasters.
Now, BB5. I don't know what it will be like. Nor do I care particularly.BB has run it's course. The whole point of the "experiment" (if you can call it that) was supposed to be to see how people react when they live their lives on camera. People are playing up. So, we are seeing them how they want us to, not how they are. The only thing it seems to exist for now is to provide Channel 4 with a cheap but very profitable way to fill the airwaves.
Regarding reality tv in general, and I include all those programs where the cameras follow a person for a year for some reason (like the one that followed the residents of Soho Square a while back), and programs like Wife Swap (despite the fact that I enjoy this program and am actually friends with some of the crew who work on it).
Well, I think there is far too much of it on TV. TBH, it has got to the point where if you removed all the soaps, reality tv progs and all the "cop is slightly dodgy, but gets results anyway" drama mini series, you wouldn't find an awful lot left on the BBC1 and ITV schedules.
I would like to sit down one night and watch a really good sci fi program, or a drama with no police or murders involved, and then a good documentary. Even the soaps would be better if they didn't resort to re-using their or other people's storylines and relying on storylines involving people jumping into bed at any opportunity.
It's not going to happen anytime soon though because the people in charge lack imagination, reality tv is cheaper and the public still watch it (so it is profitable).

Let's face it - you're not going to be satisfied unless you see some humpin' and bumpin' - anything less and BB5 will also be branded 'boring'.

The only thing I ever liked about BB was watching Ray get langered then start a fight with people.

Re: The Anti-Big Brother Thread!! :D
It's e4 that most effectively blows the lid on Bored Brother. I can just about handle the nightly highlights show, but just think - that's 24 hours of real life condensed into about 25 minutes. When you watch e4 you see BB for what it is: a rat cage containing a dozen very bored and very stupid specimens, on whom ethically dubious experiments are performed by ratings-hungry TV makers.
