Orange Motorola C520 Special Code

Hi all

I have just given my old Orange Motorola C520 phone to a friend who wants to use his own SIM card When the phone is switch on we get the message enter special code now, and apparently need an 8 digit number.

Is this something that would have been supplied when I brought the phone and should be with the paper work or is it some thing else.

Can we get around this.....any ideas.

Regards

Mike

Is it the same network sim card?

Sounds like the phone is asking for either a code to put a new sim in OR one for unlocking the phone to another network.

If the sim cards are the same network then the manual should have the default security code in it somewhere....

If they a different networks then you will need to get the phone unlocked.

Your network provider will (maybe) help you with an unlocking code - but they are likely to charge a fair bit for the privalege. Alternatively there are numerous places (even on in Milton Keynes shopping centre!) that will flash your phone at a fraction of the cost - but they will be unlikely to make any warranty if they screw it up for you!

Re: Orange Motorola C520 Special Code

What network is your friends SIM?
It would be worth noting that only Orange SIMs will work in this phone (as it is locked) and even if you unlock it only T-Mobile or Virgin SIMs will work (as the phone is single-band 1800MHz).

Re: Orange Motorola C520 Special Code

I was able to get my pay-as-you-go phone unlocked by my network provider (Orange) free of charge when I moved back to the UK. In France, your original network provider is legally obliged to provide you with the unlock code for the EMEI number provided you've owned it for more than 6 months. If you request it prior to the 6-month deadline expiring, then they can charge you .....Orange quoted me €20.

I'd check whether such a provision exists with your original provider, before trying it elsewhere.

Nokia phones, on the other hand, are easily unlocked using freely available tools on the web

In the UK, the original network is also legally obliged to provide an unlock code but they can charge a "reasonable" administration fee (up to £25, I think).
