Question ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?

As you are all aware ntl are reshuffling the analogue packs and have put a channel ntl presentation on some channels' downtime. The problem with this (and the letter received) is that there are *s indicating a channel not being available in all areas. The problem is that it doesn't tell you which areas. I have found a rather old channel lineup and notice Challenge and Sky Cinema are both listed as channel 12, I don't know if these timeshare or if Challenge is not available in my area. The letters were a missed opportunity as they could have given the regional details, but ntl didn't. This means it's hard to make an educated decision to decide which pack to go for. Even on the channe; ntl thing the woman says TCM is great for an old movie on a Sunday afternoon when it doesn't start broadcasting 'til 9pm

I'm in Renfrewshire (I think this comes under Glasgow for TV) if that helps

Any advice appreciates, and if ntl could put this on their website it would be useful

Assuming its not a typo on that list, my guess is that they are time shared channels, as they are in the other regions. Both Channels originally launched as time shared on Sky only going 24hr when they went digital, and most analogue broadcasts are still tied to the old contracts from that time

That would make sense, I wonder why it doesn't have its own number as TCM/Cartoon Network have a channel number each despite timesharing. Does anyone know what Challenge's hours woud be?

Cheers

EDIT - just looked at DigiGuide and Challenge? Analogue and Sky Cinema Analogue are both on now (9-10pm).

Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?

Hi

There is information on the analogue channels available in each analogue area on our website, although it's possibly slightly tricky to find. Go here http://www.ntlhome.com/ntl_analoguetv/index.asp. On the right hand side, there is a link to check which channels are in your area. Put in your postcode and it will tell you. It won't do channel numbers or broadcast times though.

Hope this helps!
Cheers

great link, Sam, thanks

- one comment about the channels advertised as available, is that several of them 'time share' - only plus/men & motors seems to indicate that? TCM not coming on till 2100 has already been mentioned. Discovery 'Home & Leisure' & Discovery swap at 1600 is another example.

- that's a comment, not a complaint

- but perhaps why the analogue base pack 'seemed' better than the digital one, I presume each of the channels 'available' on digital are discrete & not time shared?

Cheers for the link Sam, but

"Currently there are no channels available for this postcode. Enter a new postcode to view channels."

Other than it not working I think broadcast times would be very useful. It is one of the major drawbacks of analogue and it seems a litle misleading not to mention it. Even something like, "Not all channels broadcast at all times on ntl's analogue TV service" would cover it.

But the advantage of analogue over digital is that u can tune the TV into the terrestrial channels (1-5), whereas with the digital STB's that NTL issue u can't as they have no analogue pass thru'. This lets u record a channel that ur not currently watching on 1-5, and lets u run more than 1 TV off the STB so people can watch different terrestrial channels.

I have heard that there's an adapter available that u can add 2 digital STB to receive the analogue signal though. Any1 know if this works with current issue STB's?

AFAIK its only the new samsungs that can't be fitted with one, but my understanding is that one is being developed for them as well.
Cust services should be able to arrange for one to be fitted for you.

Does this include Bromley areas??
And if so, can anyone confirm that it would work with a Di4000-N???

And just to make sure I've got the right end of the stick, this would be to allow viewing of channels 1-5 on analogue cable, right???

Cheers,

The Samsungs are only available at the moment on Bromley, so I think Stu is talking about Bromley Samsungs.
I think there is a box which allows analogue passthrough on 4000's, but I cannot say for sure, CS should be able to help you.

my numbers havn't changed - but the programs I get for my 'pack' have, I have now upgraded to the 'family' pack, because Sci Fi wasn't included in the new 'mid pack', I was offered, for example. I might have been mad at this, but I already took what was 'Sky Movies Premier' - now SM1 - but even on the 'mid pack' this was upgraded to include SM2 & SC2 + Disney, so I ain't that put out.

This is what I have showing at 2150 in my region

1-5 - of course

6 - ITV2

7 - Local Channel

8 - Plus

9 - Sky1

12 - British Eurosport

18 - Challenge

Ok cheers Proppin'

I just want to clarify this though - is this to allow analogue cable pass-through or terrestrial analogue??
The reason I ask is because our house has no aerial socket, so an analogue cable pass-through would be perfect.
