I think your return path is knackered. Can you press Page Up Page Down and then blue, then select more until theres info on your return path status. Unless its status 5, then theres an issue.

LCR3 16:9/4:3 Bug on 4001NI box?
Ahoyhoy,
My STB is set to 16:9, and my TV (a Sony KV28-FD1) is set to smart (so, even 4:3 programs occupy the entire screen - I'd rather see that than black borders on the left & right of a 4:3 picture). The STB is a 4001NI, running LCR3 in Cambridge, and yesterday - for no particular reason - 4:3 programming started getting decoded by the box as a 4:3 image on a 16:9 output. So, anything in 4:3 (Sky News, for example), output a widescreen image but the 4:3 broadcast had large black borders. This occurred on every channel broadcasting in 4:3.. and because it was actually outputting a widescreen signal (and a widescreen format image) there wasn't any way of having the 4:3 part fill my TV screen.
There were bugs with widescreen on pre-LCR3 software on my box, which Proppin' explained, and which are now fixed in LCR3. A workaround until LCR3 was to go to the AV settings menu and change the TV settings from 16:9 to 4:3, then back again. So, bearing this in mind I tried the same workaround to see if this resolved the issue described above.
Happily it did... but based on this I suspect that there's a bug in there somewhere. It's bizarre that the bug is now related to 4:3 programming this time though! Is this something that others have seen? Or am I the first to come across this..?
Any ideas, Proppin'?
Cheers,
Dean

Re: CR3: Any Feedback or Questions?
IanGuy, I had the same prob, it turned out that the signal strength needed to up'd by and a eng'y. Call CS and book a visit.
But even tho mine is now fixed, still don't appear to have full red button use (only bbci), which I thought was be turned on with CR3. Can anyone advise as to when it will be turned on for the Colchester area.

Can you Page Up, Page down, and blue, then select more and let me know the HW version. Can you let me know how often it happens if it happens again.
If I understand correctly you are saying the STB was showing widescreen fullscreen, and 4:3 pics with black bars down either side (like it should do if you weren't using Smart on the TV)?

CR3 makes red button apps (ETV) possible.
However, you won't start to see much improvement until the LCR3 rollout has been completed. Even then, 'full' red button use will be a gradual process - bit by bit.

Re: CR3: Any Feedback or Questions?
does proppin' or anybody know, if it is, ntl:'s aim to get CR3 rolled out so they are able to provide ETV for wimbledon, and Euro2004, or have they no actual aim. P.S Wimbledon starts 21st June, it would be done by then anyway, surely

Re: CR3: Any Feedback or Questions?
Right last night, rebooted the box to see if any joy would come out of it and glad to say it did. Within 10 minutes of viewing an update had been downloaded and then i pressed confirm, the box rebooted and WAHEY! Help and interactive now work!
Today tho I have no listings on the mini guide, suppose alot of ppl get this tho.

Sure, the HW Type is '4001-2A', HW Version is '2 A'.
Widescreen shows completely correctly (and for that I'm grateful!). 4:3 ends up sending a widescreen-format image that's got the 4:3 display in the image, but with black bars on the left and right being output as part of the image from the STB. You're right in that it looks like viewing a 4:3 image on my TV when my TV isn't in smart mode. If I select 4:3 mode on my TV when this problem occurs, I end up with an image that has an aspect ratio that's horizontally squished.
Hope this is ok.. It's only happened once since the box was updated with LCR3 a few weeks ago.. but if it happens again I'll drop you a PM if you're interested? Or, if you'd rather I just post up here again just let me know..
Thanks!
Dean

Re: CR3: Any Feedback or Questions?
This may may be a stupid question but is it unheard of for an STB to repeatedly (ie over 4 days) fail to download an update and then (hopefully!) have it succeed, or does this mean a call to CS.
Basically the box (Pace 4010) will reboot and show messages TUNE and PAT for anything up to 3 hours before another reboot but with no change to CR3.

It sounds like either a box or levels issue. Most likely the box. It could be the box overheating. Leave it unplugged for half an hour and then try again, otherwise its a call to CS.
What area are you in?

Re: CR3: Any Feedback or Questions?
I'll let the box cool down and see what happens.
Thanks for the input; much appreciated by this Cardiff newbie.

Proppin' - is this a CR3 function as it doesn't work on my box? How do I get the same info before I get CR3? Just curious....

When can we expect a response to these and other problems? For example: - Are they valid?
- Are ntl trying to fix them as the roll-out proceeds, or are we all being given the same software, bugs and all?
- When can we expect them to be fixed in the areas that already have them?
- How did they manage to get through the lengthy development and testing that this software has been through?

Hi
It's a valid question. The problem has been that this thread was going to be co-ordinated via Neil with questions emailed to him, for us to respond to. That hasn't happened as no-one emailed Neil, instead everyone has posted here, and this is now a very long discussion with a lot of individual issues and observations mixed in with the valid questions and feedback.
If someone wants to get a specific list of questions together for us to respond to, that would be very helpful! I'll make sure that I get responses posted on here for that.
Otherwise, I will ask someone here to go through and see what questions they can pick out to respond to.
Cheers
Sam

Re: CR3: Any Feedback or Questions?
All of 4 people mailed me (despite my reminders in this thread)
Sam-I did forward those 4 members queries to you. I put them all on an MS Word doc & emailed them to you)
I can re-send if necessary.

Fair request!
Sorry, didn't realise you'd requested Neil to co-ordinate via email. I've PM'ed Neil with my feedback from my post of last week.
