Re: port 6881 blacklisted

This 'may' be caused by the NTL transparant web proxies? IIRC When you download a torrent then part of the process uses HTTP?

I know I had terrible trouble downloading the latest Mandrake Linux ISO's using BitTorrent as the server/tracker was seeing NTL's proxy IP and not my CM IP. Thankfully in my case Mandrake offer HTTP connectivity on port 8080 as well as 80 so it was possible to bypass NTL's proxy.

Some version's of the Bt Torrent software now use PeerGuardian. Some of NTL's ip range have been banned for some reason by the auther of that software. That might be what you are seeing, If not try changeing to port 6882 in your client if it allows you and it should work.

Re: port 6881 blacklisted

BitTorrent is almost useless on NTL due to the proxies caching the tracker file...

However the Trackers are on port 6969 which has nothing to do with the proxys.

Re: port 6881 blacklisted

Ive never had an issue with torrents i use the default ports 6881 - 6889 is it? well i only use 1 torrent at a time so it just uses 6881

everyone else i know who uses torrents on ntl dosnt have an issue either as long as the port is open or forwarded - i use shadows experimental but have used his new tornado version and the azura? version that runs on java ..havnt noticed much difference between them apart from one looks pretty but as a it runs in the system try i dont care about pretties as long as linux d/ls at 120k im happy.

Not all trackers are hence the problems I mentioned earlier with Mandrake.

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent (ports 6881 to 6889)

I just got this error from Bittorrent on my NTL connection and I've also been getting poor download speeds- despite it being completely fine a few weeks ago.

I'm using the latest Azureus client, with no firewall and no router. I changed the port setting in Azureus and the download worked. Unfortunately, it's also been a bit up and down speed-wise. It started off at my connection's full speed, but keep slowing down to around 4/5kbps and then speeding up again. Right now it has levelled out at about 5kbps, although I'm uploading at a much faster rate- which leads me to believe it's something to do with NTL.

Is there anything else I can do to ensure it'll work better on my connection? What if I were to change my IP address in Azureus- would this make any difference and what should I change it to? What's all this port-forwarding and how would I stop the NTL proxy messing things up? Sorry for being a complete n00b, but if anybody could help I'll be extremely grateful!

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent (ports 6881 to 6889)

Set your maximum upload to a few kb/s below your actual maximum upload.

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent (ports 6881 to 6889)

Hi,

Could anyone tell me the exact setting used in the shadow client - I'm with NTL broadband, and I configured my firewall to allow it to use the correct ports, but my download speeds are crap :-(

Many thanks in advance.
