No just Defiant being himself ain't it good to have him back

Defiant - Just because the company puts prices up does not mean they are thieves, bosses unfortionatly will pay themselves big bonuses if they can get away with it, ntl are not alone in that. It is a shame that they saw fit to cut 1,500 jobs over 3 years after paying such big binuses to themselves but until the shareholders put a stop to it they will no doubt carry on

I agree Scooby but unfortunately the largest shareholders now are the banks so nothing will happen until the last minute again

Why do NTL charge £6 for the "GOD" channel if it is so crap that nobody wants to watch it? They must have some customers for it, if not they could use the slot for something customers do want.
I can hand on heart say that out of all of them I only watch.

101 BBC One London
102 BBC Two England
501 Sky News

In regards to charging for the GOD channel?? I don't know maybe they have been told to by some higher power

Re: Price increase

To the people who are saying that after 12 months you have to pay for Sky to repair/do anything to your set-top box. Are you absolutely sure that is 100% true? My parents have had sky for about 12 or 13 years now. They had analogue for about 6 or so years and digital for the last 5 or 6. In that time they have had 3 engineer call-outs. The first time they were charged £60, but this was later refunded after the engineer visit, in which he solved their problem. They recently, some time in the last 6 months, had a completely new set top box with NO CHARGE at all. This was a full engineer visit, replaced set top box + when some things didn't work, some channels didn't show in the list, Sky had him call back again the next day to finish the job. This is the second replacement box they have had, all outside the initial 12 month contract period. So, what's the deal then. Not a penny has been paid by my parents for these visits and box swaps, all outside the fabled 12 month contract.

I am guessing this is just Sky being sensible. They could say that they would not replace the box but then they would lose your parents custom - after all Sky have had 12 to 13 years subscription out of your parents!
Sky seem quite happy to give a free box away with one years subscription so with 2 or 3 of boxes in 12 years Sky are raking in the money!

Exactly, and so is there any real difference to NTL? I just spoke to my mum and she said they originally had a Grundig digital box which stopped working properly, so Sky gave them another box, she can't remember the make. They had this for a couple of months, but weren't satisfied with it, so Sky gave them another, Pace this time, which they have been happy with. TBH it's only what you'd expect from a company you were paying a sum of money to every month. I don't know why people think NTL are doing people such a service. Many people are paying them almost £100 a month for services, so the least they can do is make repairs when things go wrong, it protects their investment, and Sky are no different. Pay £40 a month for their full package and outside the 12 months, if things go wrong, they'll replace it for you if they think you'll leave, or even think of leaving. It's good business sense. Is it better to spite your nose over the cost of a £100 set top box, or keep pulling in £40 a month, or £80+ in NTLs case. So the people claiming NTL are so much better than Sky, purely because they think Sky will throw you overboard after 12 months are being unrealistic.

I'm calling NTL tonight, to downgrade broadband to 600k and will probably cut some TV services after the weekend, Sports mainly. I will tell NTL I intend to leave for Sky/BT/ADSL and I bet they try and give me an incentive to stay, because they want to protect a good paying customer. Unfortunately for them, this increase is the last straw for me. There are too many small things wrong with their phone/TV/internet services, which alone wouldn't bother me, but together and at an increased price, has finally persuaded me to get off my arse and change.

I do agree that some of the price rises are unjustified, however, your accusing ntl of a criminal act.

No, you'll find NTL are very good at trying to give customers a little somethign to change their minds. Same as my mobile phone company. Had 2 lines. Called to cancel one. They tried to give me three different levels of bribery, before they gave up and realised I was serious about cancelling.

Your allowed to think it, but saying things like this could land you in all sorts of trouble, i.e your comment is slanderous.

Look around the forum - there are plenty of people here who have reduced price services, freebies etc that ntl retentions have given them when they want to cancel. ntl can and do do this. All too much IMO.
